Ashley YoungAshley Young’s fall from grace has been remarkable to watch. When he arrived at Old Trafford he had the world at his feet. The ex-Aston Villa winger, was fleet of foot, smart and had a direct attacking nature that was a joy to watch.

Some of his build up play was sublime and he’s scored a number of outrageous goals throughout his career. I’ll never forget his brace against Arsenal during Manchester United’s stonking 8-2 victory.

But since his wash-out at Euro 2012, he has looked like a man drained of all of his confidence. His impact in recent months has been negligible and it seems to be getting to the stage where the fans are losing patience.

This is quite likely the most challenging moment in Young’s career to date. But does the 28-year-old have what it takes to turn things around?

Given his age, Young should be at the peak of his career. These should be the best years of his professional life. Instead, he’s spending an awfully large amount of time sitting on the bench at a club where he doesn’t seem to fit in.

By this, I’m referring to the fact that David Moyes refused to support him after his latest diving debacle against Crystal Palace. Too right too.

Plenty of fans have started to ask whether their club should cash in on Ashley Young, whilst he still has some reputation left. Interestingly enough, it looks like the club are coming around to this point of view.

According to Goal.com, David Moyes is willing to listen to offers for Ashley Young during the January transfer window. If somebody makes a fair bid, there’s a good chance that Young will be on his way.

Goal.com also point out that Ashley Young is currently picking up £110k-a-week. That’s a huge amount of money to be dolling out to a player who isn’t offering the club anything in return.

As such, it does seem like the time is right for Young to move on. A change of scenery could be exactly what he needs to re-find his form.

Likewise, Manchester United could probably use the money from his sale to bring in a creative midfielder. It just seems to make sense on every level.

Thanks for all the good memories Ashley, but I’d say it’s time to move on.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United cash in on Ashley Young?
