Why is David Moyes continuing to hold Wilfried Zaha back?

Wilfried ZahaUnsurprisingly, given Manchester United’s current position in the Premier League table, David Moyes has been getting a lot of flack from fans for the way he is using players.

Take Shinji Kagawa, for instance, who was Borussia Dortmund’s best player and one of the most deadly midfielders in Europe a couple of seasons ago. Now that David Moyes is in charge, he’s been reduced to a bit-part player at Manchester United.

Then there’ s Wilfried Zaha, who was a Sir Alex Ferguson signing and has also struggled to make an impact under David Moyes.

The former Everton man clearly has some concerns over Zaha’s lack of experience at the top level and is biding his time before giving him a shot in the Premier League. The fact that he’s not even getting into Manchester United’s match-day squads is worrying.

It would also have been nice to see Zaha get a look in during United’s recent Capital One Cup clash with Liverpool.

The situation must be disappointing for the youngster, who would have expected a lot more having moved on from Crystal Palace in the summer. I’m sure he’s already wondering if he made the move too early in his career.

And now we’ve heard the news that Manchester United have turned down Nottingham Forest’s loan move for Wilfried Zaha (Source: The Mirror). This strikes me as a little unfair.

Does David Moyes really believe that he’s doing the best thing for Zaha’s development here? At 20-years-old, the best possible thing for Wilfried Zaha is regular game-time.

Whilst training with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie is sure to help, nothing’s quite as effective as taking to the pitch and slogging it out in a competitive setting.

I can only hope that David Moyes turned down Forest’s advances, because he plans to offer Zaha some game-time this season. If he’s willing to give the youngster a fair shot, then Zaha could yet make a name for himself at Old Trafford.

My only concern is that David Moyes doesn’t seem to know his players particularly well just yet. He certainly hasn’t been able to lead them well and the results have suffered as a result. With all this in the background, I’m not sure he’s doing the right thing when it comes to Wilfried Zaha.

I could be wrong. I’d love to see Zaha get his shot, but I certainly wont hold my breath.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United have sent Wilfried Zaha out on loan?
