Burak YilmazGalatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz really rose to prominence last season, with his goals in both the Champions League and the Turkish League. It’s little wonder that he’s now such a hot prospect throughout Europe.

Yilmaz is not just one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Turkey, he’s one of the most prolific goal scorers in the world.  The man simply excludes confidence and class when he’s in front of goal. His ability to find the back of the net from all distances and angles is very impressive indeed.

Last season Yilmaz scored 32 goals in 39 games. That kind of return is practically unheard of. What’s more, the 28-year-old forward was vital to Galatasaray progressing through the group stages of the Champions League (before the first knockout stage  he was the competition’s top scorer, with 6 goals in 501 minutes).

But he’s also more than just a goal-scoring centre forward. He works hard, has decent technical ability and can link up well with the midfield. It’s these qualities that would help him adapt quickly to the Premier League if he were to make a move.

On a related note, The Star recently claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all on red alert when it comes to Burak Yilmaz and are ready to pounce at any moment.

They use the following quotes from Galatasaray chairman Unal Aysal as evidence: “If he wants to go and Chelsea are interested then of course, why not? I favour Turkish players going to Europe to play in European leagues”.

In a time where most chairmen scrap tooth and nail to keep hold of their club’s best players, it’s both refreshing and somewhat strange to see this kind of attitude. Aysal doesn’t seem all that bothered by the prospect of Yilmaz’s imminent departure. This point of view must surely be motivated by a potential big pay-out for Galatasaray.

Whilst Aysal name checks Chelsea, of all the club’s mentioned, it’s Arsenal who need Yurak the most. Arsenal are currently heaping the pressure on Olivier Giroud, as they just don’t have any other options available to them. It’s difficult to picture the club relying on Nicklas Bendtner for too long.

We also know that the Gunners have enough cash to make a deal happen. It’ll certainly be interesting to watch this story develop.

What’s your take? Would Burak Yilmaz be a hit at the Emirates?
