Jeroen ZoetNewcastle United’s number 1 ‘keeper could be on his way out of St James’ Park after a string of solid performances in a, thus far, disappointing Premier League season.

The Dutch international was linked with big money moves away from the club with Arsenal, AC Milan and Monaco vying for his signature. The Toon bosses are reportedly happy with Rob Elliot’s progress but don’t feel that Jak Alnwick and Jonathan Mitchell are ready for the step up to the first team. (Source: The Mail)

Although the Magpies’ shortcoming came up front, scoring only 68 goals in all competitions last season, their defensive record is no better and so Newcastle are preparing for a bid to come in during the January transfer window and have already drawn up a list of replacements.

One of these replacements is 22 year old Dutchman, Jeroen Zoet. The 6’ 3” goalie is a product of the famous PSV Eindhoven Academy and made his breakthrough in 2011 while on loan at RKC Waalwijk. The 2013/14 season has seen him become PSV’s main goalkeeper, playing in all but two games in the Eredivise. (Source: The Express)

Zoet has represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 level playing 46 times. He was named as the Jong Oranje’s number 1 for the 2013 European U21 Championship. The Dutch managed to reach the semi-finals, but were knocked out by losing finalists, Italy.

Alan Pardew has expressed an interest in the dutchman, having scouted him as PSV drew 2-2 with FC Twente last month. Eindhoven are looking to rekindle £6 million for the player.

Though the pricetag does still seem resonable for a player of Zoet’s potential, he was available in the Summer for a meagre £2m. However, having only recently signed a new contract, tying him to the club until 2007,the price rise was inevitable.

Here’s what he had to say recently about a move to the Premier League:

“Your career never just unfolds the way you would like it too. You just have to keep trying and deal with the things that are in your hands.

I went to RKC to get the experience that would put me in good shape to play for PSV.”

The signing would be a positive for all concerned. Krul may be forced to up his came as competition for places becomes fierce. The Toon Army will also be keen to see some new signings at St James’ Park.

Would you welcome Zoet to Newcastle or are there better options?
