Paul PogbaUnder Arsene Wenger, Arsenal have never been shy when it comes to young French talent. Indeed, when it comes to French footballers, the Gunners are like a kid in a boulangerie. Arsene Wenger’s appetite for footballer’s from across the channel seems unending.

Maybe it’s just that he knows the League better than anybody else? Maybe he feels a genuine connection with these footballers? Either way Arsene Wenger’s French love-in has served Arsenal well over the years.

So when French footballers do get linked to Arsenal, the stories tend to have a certain amount of verisimilitude. If they happen to be young and have a questionable injury history, all the better.

Take 20-year-old Paul Pogba, who was linked to the Gunners throughout the summer. The former Manchester United charge is currently playing his football with Juventus, where he has attracted attention from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea.

He’s only been in Serie A for one season, but he did make 38 appearances for Juve and has already established himself as a firm fan favourite. Despite his young age, Pogba uses his strength well, is extremely powerful and can really boss opposition midfielders. He’s also got plenty of technical ability, can pick out a pass and provide a goal threat. For a 20-year-old he’s certainly got plenty in his locker.

Suffice to say, the lad has a big future ahead of him. I’m sure Arsene Wenger would love to find some way of adding him to Arsenal’s already congested midfield.

His current deal with Juventus expires in 2016, but according to The Star, the Serie A side are preparing a new deal for the talented youngster. This would make it extremely difficult for Arsenal to get their hands on Pogba. Should the Gunners try and sneak in before this happens?

Even at this stage, he’d cost Arsenal a pretty penny. There’s also no clear evidence that he fancies a move back to the Premier League. We do know, however, that the Gunners have plenty of cash to spend. They may also appeal to Pogba thanks to Arsene Wenger (who was the central figure in the Gunners deal for Mesut Ozil). What’s more, perhaps the youngster would fancy another opportunity to stick a knife into Manchester United, a club he never felt truly appreciated at.

In other words, a deal looks far off, but not impossible. Let’s see if Arsene Wenger can add another French star to his collection.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal pursue Paul Pogba or do they have more pressing concerns?
