Should Tottenham add this £15m deal to their summer spending spree?

Javier HernandezAndre-Villas-Boas has been working extremely hard this summer to put Spurs in a position where they can challenge for a top four slot.

With Arsenal stagnating, Liverpool failing to convince anybody and Manchester City slipping up early, there’s a clear opportunity for Spurs to strike their claim this season. Heck, some are even tipping them to be title contender.

Whilst I think this kind of hyperbole may be coming a little too soon, I fully expect Tottenham to impress this season. They’ve brought in so many fantastic new players and have built up so much good will, that I’m sure this will translate into decent results.

Spurs have also cultivated one of the best all-round squads in the Premier League. I’d argue that Spurs now have strength in depth in all positions, especially in the midfield. But I can’t help but feel that they still need to make another astute addition to their forward line-up.

Yes, Roberto Soldado has already been brought in (and scored two Premier League goals), but I think the Spaniard needs a little extra help. Emmanuel Adebayor was woeful last season and Jermaine Defoe is getting on in years. Bringing in another player to inspire some competition could be just the ticket.

But who should Spurs be looking at? How about Manchester United’s unfortunate striker, Javier Hernandez?

I call him unfortunate, because Hernandez has done everything he can to strike a claim for a starting berth at Old Trafford. It’s his misfortune that he happens to play for a club that has Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney on their roster.

I’d argue that Chicharito needs a change in scenery and an opportunity to establish himself at another top club. Spurs would provide him with this.

According to The Mirror, AVB is working hard to make a deal happen. They suggest he’s looking to land Hernandez for £7-8m, whilst Manchester United are holding out for £15m.

I’d argue that United’s evaluation is closer to the Mexican forward’s true value. His movement and goal-scoring prowess is simply fantastic. Last season he scored 18 goals in 36 games, many of which were as a substitute. In total, he’s scored 50 goals in 117 appearances for the club.

At 25-years-old, he’s about to enter his peak and deserves to be playing regular first team football. Let’s hope that Spurs are able to give him the chance that he needs. With the transfer window about to slam shut, AVB will have to act quickly!

What’s your take? Could Tottenham really snap up Javier Hernandez?

Agree totally. But can you see MU selling to us?
    No way!!
    They are worried about us

  • Pete says:

Defoe has still got it. Lamela can play up front. Adebayor should be replaced by a young promising striker who won’t expect to start every week… like 18 year old Finnish lad Joel Pohjanpalo. We also have Harry Kane.

Personally I think Spurs should put away the wallet now and concentrate on what they have (never thought I would say that). One catalyst that seems to have been roundly ignored in amongst all this buying frenzy is why? This catalyst is AVB he gave us a blueprint and a vision of how he wanted us to play. He has thought out strategies and made proper tactical changes and melded last years team into our highest scoring yet. That was last year with several good additional team members added to a squad he would never have put together. This year the players fit his mould, instead of just two great additions we have 7(+? Levytime?). We hear about ‘the team’ having to meld, yes, but the ones melding will be our additional 7 which as I said already play like AVB likes, the others have been together since last season and four of our newbies have played 4 games already. In all we may have already weathered the storm, and will be looking to fix our forward link-ups.

I would rather have muriel from udinese. But he will cost around 20 million

I can’t help thinking our only weak positions are at full backs, both sides, Danny Rose looks good for the future but if we are serious about challenging for a top 4 spot we do need to improve here, as for right back, Walker has all the pace in the world but when defending he makes silly mistakes that often cost us. I think sometimes his brain doesn’t work at the same speed as his legs.

i think we all have to be realistic its great that we have splashed the cash it was long over due, but we must not expect to much to soon, i think we will start to see the fruits of the buying in the secound half of the season but next year with i am sure a few twecks we will have a great team, so if we can buy Hernandez go for it he is a great player and proven in the pl its a little more depth which can not be bad.

I don’t know if we could but I certainly think we should
18 goals in 36 games last season speaks for itself doesn’t it
we need another striker to score goals and take the pressure off of
    soldado

  • mahi says:

seriously…. y wud any 1 reject hernandez?…. wit dis guy we wil hv 2 world class options 4 every position… we hv 2 get him

  • CJ says:

Not sure we’ll get him, he’d be in a similar position with us and is similar to Soldado.

Having said that he had the best goals per minute ratio of any premier league player last season. And I think we need another striker, but probably an up and coming one is more likely.
