Ander HerreraThe story of Ander Herrera’s developing relationship with Manchester United has been fascinating to watch.

With David Moyes spending this summer scrabbling through the transfer market, desperately seeking a creative midfielder, Herrera’s was a name that would pop up again and again.

His quick feet and creative flair meant that he would have been a good fit at Old Trafford. Unfortunately, however, a deal for the La Liga ace never materialised.

Worse than that, United managed to embarrass themselves through their handling of the negotiations (at least by association). Representatives claiming to be from United, spent deadline day at Athletic Bilbao, trying to hash out a deal for Herrera.

That same day, however, they were exposed as imposters. It was a truly bizarre situation.

The player is believed to have a £31m release clause. United made a £26m bid this summer, but the La Liga side are waiting for David Moyes to hit his release clause, before they’re willing to consider selling him.

As such, United couldn’t pull off a deal this summer. But that won’t stop them from going back in this January.

Indeed, according to The Star, bookmakers have him at just 11/4 to make a move to Old Trafford during the next transfer window. I like those odds!

Yes, Manchester United signed Marouane Fellaini. It’s clear enough, however, that he views himself as a defensive midfielder. In other words, he doesn’t have the creative flair, vision or drive to lead the Red Devils forward.

As such, it’s up to Moyes to fill this need in his squad this summer. Ander Herrara would be a good choice.

David Moyes must already be well acquainted with the Spaniard. At just 24-years-old, his range of passing and speed of thought is very impressive indeed. He’s quick along the ground, smart with the ball and dangerous moving forward.

No wonder United are interested. He’d provide that spark that their midfield currently lacks. The only thing he really lacks at the moment is goal-scoring ability.

Having said that, £31m is a lot of money. It’s a big investment on a player who has never been at a so-called big-club. But Herrera has the talent to back-up his price-tag.

Let’s see if David Moyes can finally pull off this deal and put to bed the stories about ‘imposters’!

What’s your take? Should Manchester United go back in for Ander Herrera?
