Manchester United favourites to sign this La Liga superstar: time to break out the champagne?

EM-Qualifikation Deutschland - Türkei 3:0Manchester United’s failures this summer have been well documented. There’s been so much pressure placed upon ‘Dithering Dave’, alongside bucket-loads of media scrutiny that it’s little wonder that the Red Devils have struggled to bring players in.

Still, this fact doesn’t take the sheen of embarrassment off of the fact that United tried and failed to sign Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara. Whilst a deal for Alcantara looked quite likely at one stage (before his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola came knocking), United never stood a chance of signing Fabregas.

His Arsenal connections run too deep and he’s desperate to make it at the Nou Camp. There’s no reason why Fabregas would have any interest in moving to Old Trafford.

I think it’s fair to say that United’s pursuit of Cesc Fabregas will go down as an unholy waste of time. But there’s still time for David Moyes to bring in a player (or two) who will help us forget all the mistakes that have been made this summer.

I’m referring specifically to the club’s current links to Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil. I’d argue that the German midfielder is better than both Alcantara and Fabregas and would be an excellent fit in the Premier League.

Moreover, he’s exactly what Manchester United need at this moment. The club has been on the hunt for a creative midfielder this summer and Ozil certainly ticks that box. The 24-year-old fleet-footed midfielder is a slick passer, who’s able to split defenses with consummate ease.

He reads the game expertly and has the vision and ability to pull of spectacular, game-changing passes. He’s also happy to barrel forward and provide a goal-threat of his own. Ozil is an all-action midfielder who would improve this Manchester United side significantly.

The Star claim that a deal for Ozil could be underway. They note that Manchester United are favourites to sign him at 4/7 (according to Sky Bet), ahead of Arsenal at 5/1).

The player in question is thought to be frustrated with his current position at the Bernabeu and the knowledge that Gareth Bale’s arrival may limit his game time. He may be happy in La Liga, but I’m sure he could be tempted by a move to the Premier League, especially if Manchester United put together the right wage-package for him.

It’s up to the club’s top brass to do exactly that and for David Moyes to finally seal the deal that will bring all Manchester United fans back on side.

What’s your take? Are Manchester United right to make a move for Mesut Ozil?

    • Mr man untd says:

Moyes has lost it.. He picked wrong team. For me. De gea, jones, rio, vidic, evera. In Midfield.. Valencia, carrick, nani, kagawa,
      Up front RVP, wellback,

  • stanley says:

Its high time moyes start thinking that herera is all we need, creativity is all we need, united fans are tired of seeing Giggs tired legs from the begining of the match…..he should be used as a substitute and cleverly hasn’t been creative enough so pls get Ander Herrera

  • macdonald says:

    whereskagawa?

  • Jeff says:

Would love him at OT. Cannot understand why Moyes hasn’t just gone and whacked down a bag of cash in Madrid. He would improve us tremendously. Getting peed off with the fact that Kagawa is not being used too. Seems such a waste.

I agree that Cleverly is not good enough to warrant a starting place yet. Anderson has had too much time already to prove himself. he’s not up to the required level. Giggs still plays a role and he does sometimes help rescue us but we shouldn;t even be in situations where we need rescuing.

Sounds like Fellaini may well be coming. He will add a little steel but we’re still missing that crucial creative element. All our wingers are now suspect – none how ever been consistent long term. Maybe if we got Ozil we could play Ozil, Kagawa and Rooney all interchanging behind Van Persie and leave our traditional wingplay game on the sidelines at least unti lwe had the correct bodies in place.

    Why is Kagawa not playing?????

  • G.W says:

I completely agree neo were playing a 40 year old left winger on the right. It’s madness

  • Mr man untd says:

Ozil and De Rossi will be perfect united..

  • Richard says:

I have been a Manu supported for 50years and love it, but unless we go back to a attacking midfield and get away from this slow hold the ball build up where it allows defences to get in place. We nolonger have the Fergie factor ,it’s not the Manu way we need to attack. We are the best and we go for it, we are entertainers, so show it David let others be boring we are Manchester united . Richard Davies .

  • Lee rodmell says:

We desperately need players we simply are not good enough and I can see us getting overtaken and beaten to even 4th spot! Over teams are looking quality through there spending just can’t see us competing with the present squad! What was moyes on about we played well, was absolutely out played and I think it’s a sign of how things are gonna be this season disasterous!

It’s too late…Ozil going to Arsenal for €45 + add ons and sadly for this disillusioned United fan it is now confirmed that Moyes and Woodward have made my team the laughing stock of the football world. My season ticket has now been torn up and thrown in the bin. Thoroughly p**sed off after today’s result too

I agree with mr man utd, but slow ain’t the word!
We must act quickly and get the world class players that belong at this club NOW!

  • Suresh Kumar says:

All the comment we fans have said about who Man Utd should buy will all go to waste. The papers have said Febregas,Tiago,Ozil and many more are all bullshit. The Blady real reason behind as to why these players were not bought is because, it’s the Glazer Scumbags. They are not giving any money to buy the players… That’s the real reason…

  • Yusupha Baldeh says:
