Is this Liverpool deal one of the smartest of the summer?

Victor MosesLast Sunday could prove to have been a very important day for Liverpool football club. First, let’s get the obvious out the way: the Reds beat their big rivals, Manchester United and climbed to the summit of the Premier League table.

Here they’ll stay until the end of the International break. What a fantastic position for the club to be in, three games into the season.

This is especially true given that Manchester City and Arsenal have already slipped up, United look a little lackluster and Chelsea look overly defensive. The Reds, on the other hand, look to be brimming with options and attacking endeavour.

Brendan Rodgers has spent the summer constructing a competitive squad and now the club is reaping the rewards. For the first time in a long while, Liverpool have strength in depth.

United, on the other hand, couldn’t contend with the Reds and didn’t have enough creativity in their midfield to force a result.

But Sunday didn’t just contain a big victory for Liverpool. It also happened to be the day that the club made an important signing – one that’s likely to have a significant impact this season.

I’m referring to Victor Moses, who the Reds have signed on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

Moses watched Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over United at Anfield and must have been pleased with what he saw. He’ll be joining a forward-thinking, attacking-minded team, where he’ll get a considerable amount of game-time. That just wouldn’t be the case if he chose to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Though he hasn’t exactly thrived at Chelsea, he did make 43 appearances for the Blues last season (many of which were as a substitute) and he even chipped in with 10 goals.

Those are pretty impressive figures for a 22-year-old.

He’s also extremely versatile and can play pretty much anywhere across the front-line. Still, he’s probably best suited to play down the flanks.

As a winger, he’ll add pace and power to Liverpool’s forward line-up. On his day, he’s a real handful and can give opposition defenders nightmares. He’s certainly going to provide a marked improvement on the likes of Stewart Downing (good riddance!)

Given that he only cost Liverpool £1.5m (plus his wages), Brendan Rodgers has pulled off a genuine bargain. Moses must be chomping at the bit for a bigger role at a top team. He’ll have that at Anfield and he’ll be given an opportunity to excel.

What’s your take? Is this Liverpool deal one of the smartest of the summer?

    His wages are 90,000+
    Better be worth it

    • Mike says:

Simon, your wrong, his wages are only £50,000 a week which makes him the best signing of the summer.

    • steve says:

      his wages are 55k
and we don’t know how much of this liverpool are paying. even if 100%, we can live with 55k

  • Martinmarx says:

We shall wait and see me reckons. Brendan need to sort our second-half issue or we’ll soon get punished. I don’t see Moses as a game changer but rather adding quality and depth to the squad. Here’s hoping you’re right.

Brendan rodger is doin d riit thing and I personally impressed wif ao he dealt with suarez saga. And moreso, moses is 1 of d complete foothballer in england as @ 2day, I can authoritatively say that. He can play @ right or left wing. Sincerely liverpool pattern of playn style even suite him. Qudous 2 u our england manager or coach of d october.

  • ewes fr says:

He will certainly be a great coup for us and also helpus to torment the opposition defence

  • Simonb says:

“Attack minded, forward thinking” is that a joke. From what I’ve seen from Liverpool that is far from what they are. Utd lost to an incredibly poor team last week, what that says about utd right now is different matter altogether. Against utd bar the goal I can’t remember one other chance, they have been very average so far.
I actually think Liverpool signings have been very poor, all the players they have signed this summer are purely midtable players no doubt about it. They will finish nowhere near the top this season.

    • mark says:

@simonb ,,so sakho, toure are a midtable players??,, get ur fact rite fool..

    • Mil1257 says:

Simonb you are absolutely clueless. Throughout parts I agree Liverpool looked under pressure, however the both first half against Villa and United, as well as most of the game against Stoke, Liverpool were dominant. So to say they’re going to end up as a midtable team is a farce. A truly thoughtless answer by what probably is a spiteful and jealous United supporter himself.

    • MaxidusForMen says:

What the f@@k are you shite doing here. You drew with Chelsea because you played poorely. You lost to Liverpool because you were outplayed both in attack and in defence. If our players are mid table, then Utd is in a poor state of affairs. Give credit where it’s due. Don’t let your disappointed so embitter your judgement. Utd is a good side but you came against a very organised Liverpool that had a strategy and a game plan. And they won out. End of. Don’t worry where Liverpool will end the season but be very worried where Utd end up.

    • toot says:

I would settle for being average every week .. really enjoyed beating the Mancs YNWA

    • Ditbosun says:

What an idiot you are, not a liverpool fan clearly.

    • Timo S says:

You sick man u fan give credit where it’s due.A better team won on the day end of story.

    • Lfc chucks says:

I take it your not a Liverpool fan then simonb LMFAO

  • Cass says:

    Sakho -> is a coup
Toure -> He is a pain reliever at his age.
Moses ->Is a team player(he will cost us arms and legs if he perform well).

  • walker81 says:

Simon your obviously a utd fan from what you say but at the end of the day lfc hav won three without conceding a goal fact.. who did utd sign fellaini a mid table player from everton and thats it even ozil choose to go to arsenal over old Trafford cause he didnt want to play for moyes .. fergie is gone ur era is over. Pool to finish above utd this season! ! Ynwa jft96

  • Richard luiz suarez isaacks says:

Keep attention to your so called star started team of man u,we will concentrate on our mid table team,we really dont care about man u and even dont know where the hell they are on the log

  • Zothan says:

I agree with maxidus here. On sunday against manutd, the 2nd half gameplan changed not because of manutd’s attempt to play into the game, but actually because lfc defensive strategy. Apart of this petty conversation, anywhere around the world, neutral pundits say that manutd was ”emphatically outclassed” by liverpool!

  • Robbie B says:

Typical utd fan you can hear the bitterness and worry in his tone. Talk about liverpool creating chances well utd were left clutching at long range shots, there wasn’t too much that caused concern for our keeper. We played stoke of the park first game and should of been 4 or 5 up at half time, arsenal we beat away, not many do that and utd played like a team of has been’s with ferdie and giggs having a mare. How many times have Liverpool played utd of the park and lost, it’s all about 3 points and this time they were ours. Our team is young, vibrant, attack minded and solid from the back. Three clean sheets, wins against two of last years top four which we didn’t do once last year, we’re not saying we’re going to win it but we’ve made a great start which is all we can be judged on now. In particular utd should be worried, fergie alone was good for 15 points, he’s gone and as expected it clearly shows. Give it 7 more games and we will all have a better idea of how things are panning out. YNWA

Liverpool is lookin gud. Bt becoz we have looked below average for the past few years, some so called soccer analysts are finding it difficult to simply admit that. We could also be title contenders.

  • Ejyk says:

Utd are surely not winning the league and if care is not taken they will not qualify for ucl unless they call on fergie to pull the strings. You know (FA) Fergies Association. Looool
