Did Arsene Wenger pull off the deal of the summer when we were least expecting it?

Mesut OzilArsene Wenger has spent the last three months being football’s most put upon man. Fans and pundits alike have been on the Frenchman’s back. The chant has been fairly consistent throughout: ‘Spend some money!’ (although the chant often game with additional expletives.

Well, he’s done what was asked of him. Arsenal can now welcome Mesut Ozil to their ranks, a £42.4m signing, fresh from Real Madrid. That’s almost three times more than the spent on their last transfer-record buster, Andrey Arshavin.

As a signal of intent, Arsene Wenger can’t have been any clearer. Arsenal mean business this season and with a player like Ozil in tow, who knows what the club can achieve?

Any one who has seen Ozil’s performances for Real Madrid, or at international level (where he has scored a remarkable 14 goals in 47 appearances) will attest that he’s the real deal. The German has quick feet, an agile mind and the ability to cut through defenses with ease.

The Emirates will fit him like a glove, as he’s well accustomed to quick, accurate passing. The thought of him playing alongside the likes of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere is nothing short of mouth-watering. This is extremely exciting times for Arsenal fans.

Some may claim that Arsene Wenger has strengthened the one area of Arsenal’s squad that doesn’t need it. I don’t buy that. Tomas Rosicky and Abou Diaby always have injury problems. Jack Wilshere usually spends a long portion of the season out on the sidelines. What’s more, Rosicky and Cazorla can both play out wide if necessary.

But let’s not forget, that Ozil stands a good chance of establishing himself as the best midfielder in the Premier League over the next couple of years. It seems a bit churlish to argue over whether Arsenal ‘need him’.

Whilst other clubs (let’s not name names) stood still and others splurged on quantity rather than quality, Arsene stood firm to his values and brought in a player with ‘super quality’. Moreover, he’s a 24-year-old with his whole future ahead of him who’s already looks to be at the top of his game. Good on him.

You can’t help but feel that it bodes well for Arsenal’s season. Will we look back on this signing as a tipping point in the Gunners battle for silverware? I wouldn’t bet against it.

What’s your take? Just how important a signing is Mesut Ozil for Arsenal? Is he the best signing of the summer transfer window?

Ozil is best signing, but still Arsenal didn’t get what they want exactly. We need a deadly striker who can control the ball in box and goal scores. I mean like we need RVP kind of striker, actual match winner.

Arsenal will not reach anywhere without a good striker.

We’re definitely light up front but can’t see why the panic for a striker. Ollie is doing the absolute business at the moment and no reason why he can’t be the one. I agree he needs back up and what’s there isn’t ideal but it will do until January. Lets keep it positive people. We are truly on our way – albeit with still some work to do!

I agree with cin, we have an awesome midfield, the best in the premier leauge! but we need some one to put goals away. Oli has been excellent sine the start of pre season but can he keep it up all season, and what if he gets injured what out and out strikers have we got to replace him? Bentner? Sango? We could use Walcott or poldi but it leaves the midfield options thinner.
If we storm on till December and sign a world class (top top top top quality) striker we could go all the way 🙂

What’s the point in panicking? Can’t do anything until January. What we have will have to do. As for Ollie, my glass is half full. No reason why he can’t keep this form going until January or for the rest of the season. I remember the knockers and hater amongst us who dismissed Rambo and Ollie last year. What else must our guys do??? It says much more about the haters and knockers a d their ability to cope with life without super ultra instant gratification. Nothing sustainable in life works that way. This all part of our path to greatness. A very important part. Mesut’s recruitment will attract other top top players to arsenal and the club have made it clear now that we are in a position to do this kind of business. Time to celebrate our solid foundations and the massive totally secure future for our club.

Guys I believe arsenal can somethings to get us silverware this season wt the signing of Musut. No doubt about it,our latest signing is one of best final pass providers in the World now bt we need a sharp goal getter.Though Oli has started on a good form this season but our attacking mid fielders should equally wake 2 get goals for us.It has happened before and it could repeat itself.
