KarimBenzemaA number of different sources have reported that Arsenal are in the market for Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema. Given all the inactivity thus far this summer, this is extremely exciting news.

If the Gunners did sign the French striker, it might even make up for the club’s failure to agree a deal for another Real Madrid forward, Gonzalo Higuain.

The Star claim that Arsenal are readying a £40m bid for Benzema, who scored in Madrid’s opening game against Real Betis.

There have been those who have claimed that Karim Benzema’s playing style is too similar to Olivier Giroud. That there’s no point having both of them in the squad.

I don’t buy it. Whilst I’m a fan of Giroud, he’s fairly limited player. He strikes me as an out-and-out goalscorer, someone who’s there to get on the end of moves. But if you ask him to hold the ball up, or try and beat his man, he’s going to struggle nine times out of ten.

This simply wouldn’t be the case with Benzema. The Real Madrid man is an inordinately gifted footballer. I’d argue that he’s a complete striker.

He’s dominant in the air, but he’s also handy with the ball at his feet. He’s got the technical ability to take players on and when he gets into dangerous positions, he tends to make the right decisions. He can hold the ball up, distribute it nicely and bring midfielders into the game.

Arsenal could really use a player of his quality. He’s scored 88 goals in 184 appearances for Madrid. That’s a good return and he’s got all the qualities necessary to continue this form in the Premier League.

At 25-years-old, Benzema is just about to enter the best years of his career. Now is the perfect time for Arsenal to snap him up.

Unfortunately, having already lost Gonzalo Higuain, Carlo Ancelotti won’t be keen to lose another striker. It’s also not clear if Benzema would be interested in a move that would surely amount to a step down.

Arsenal are going to have to put together an extremely enticing bid and offer high wages to make a deal happen.

But it would be worth it. This is the kind of deal that would re-establish Arsenal as a major force throughout Europe. I’d argue that it’s about time.

What’s your take? Are you excited to see Arsenal in the market for Karim Benzema?

Harry nice piece but your assessment of giroud is wrong on one part. Heroes keep ball and distribute and bring others in. Yes he won’t beat many defenders for speed and he is quite one footed but he has had a good first season. Benzema will add pace and ability to go past players is he a better finisher than giroud that will be hard to tell until you see them in same league playing together and then compare their stats.

Karim is a lot different from Oliver in many ways. I’m sure they will complement each other. With him and two midfielders and a central back, Arsenal will be strong enough to compete in all fronts.

We are not allowed to have an opinion we are too brainwashed and anyway you always say we have already said that which is a lie.
