Why Liverpool must strike soon for this £15m bargain:

Willian AnzhiThough we’re only a week into this Premier League season, Liverpool fans have every reason to be cheerful.

For a start, they picked up a hard-fought three points against Stoke City, surviving a late penalty scare. More importantly, however, their squad is already a lot stronger than it was last season.

New additions Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Simon Mignolet and Luis Alberto have already ingratiated themselves nicely into the squad. Hell, even Luis Suarez appears to be falling back into line.

Then there’s Willian, Liverpool’s Brazilian transfer target. The prospect of him moving to Anfield is giving fans even more cause for celebration.

Willian is a 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who left Shakhtar Donestsk last January to join Anzhi Makhachkala. He cost the Russian club a startling £30m. So how comes it that Liverpool are being linked to the player just 8 months later?

Anzhi currently play their games in Moscow, but the plan is to move the club back to Makhachkala. Following this, more Russian players will be drafted in and foreign stars like Willian will be allowed to leave.

The player himself has spoken out about his current situation: “There are conversations, and I am hoping in the next few days for an offer from a club like Liverpool.”

“If it is Liverpool, then they are a great club. The news came as a real shock, but I’m calm about it and hoping for the best, because I’ve been told they will help the players to go, if they get a good offer.” (The Mirror)

With the World Cup fast approaching, Willian is keen to stake his claim in the Brazilian squad. A move to Liverpool may help him to do this.

The Mirror claims that £15m could be enough to convince Anzhi to sell. Why the Russian club would be willing to sell at that big a loss is beyond me, but if that’s all it would take, Liverpool should strike now.

Newcastle are also thought to be interested and if the player is available at that price, other clubs will surely get involved. Willian is a player with technical grace, flair and attacking endeavour. I have a feeling he’d take the Premier League by storm.

There’s every reason to believe that the Reds can crack the top four this season, especially if this wave of good feeling continues to roll over those associated with the club. Let’s hope that Willian joins the bandwagon!

What’s your take? Should Liverpool make a move for this £15m Brazilian?

I woke up today and couldn’t think of anything worthy to write so I decided on this piece of bile lol. Great reporting, it really is.

  • Alan says:

While I agree that the writer seems to have missed the boat with this story, there’s nothing concrete about Willian to Spurs so far, it’s all based on something a former manager of Anzi said, and some photograph’s taken at Heathrow Airport, seem familiar somehow? I do however fear we’ve missed out again.

  • adeniji says:

Hold on mates! Willian to Tottenham is not yet a done deal, so the author of this article can’t soon be castigated. There is little time for LFC to scupper a deal for willian especially if our hierachy are ambitious enough to register him as part of the squad for this season. But loosing out on quality players is gradually becoming a continious tradition for Lfc dis days( the pathetic fails on mkitharyan, costa, and potentially erikson) is still very fresh in our memory. J Henry should splash the cash if he honestly wants Liverpool to win silverwares and clinch that coveted top four position this season otherwise, we might experience the gory tales of past seasons. Lfc hirachy should act before things change to worst by splashing cash otherwise we would see top four as a night mare story.

    • harry says:

  • vj says:

No worries, for me Willian is unlucky to choose Tottenham instead of The Best Liverpool.. Tottenham is a good team but Liverpool is the BEST Forever.

  • Funnie says:

It will be a big disgrace for LFC to loose Willian to Spurs again!

  • Richard Rogers says:

Oh no! Here we go again! Obviously haven’t learnt anything from last year’s fiasco! What role (if any?) has Ian Ayre got in all these so called transfer negotiations? If you ask me he should resign immediately ……… Anybody else have any similar views?

    • grant says:

Absolutely I don’t like Ian Ayre. If a mediocre club like spurs that has nothing about them apart from finishing above LFC over the past 3 years(whilst we were going through takeovers etc) can get players whilst we sit on the fence he needs sacking. Im all for value for money and no longer shooting from the hop like the Andy Carroll situation. Personally I think with Willan we have thankfully missed out Id much prefer Arda Turan or Christian Eriksen. Id never heard of him up until a few weeks ago. He is Bales replacement and I know for sure he wont score 25 goals in the EPL and so whilst spurs fans get off on their success of signing an over valued Bale replacement theres so much better out there. Liverpool are a global brand and only 3 months ago we were approached for takeover by THE RICHEST company on EARTH ARAMCO. Not that we need that sort of money Im quite happy seeing BR assemble a young hungry squad. Liverpool had the youngest team in the EPL lasy year and in the second half of the season were third highest accumulator of points all within 12 months of BR. Spurs a joke of a club and no way to be compared to a dynasty that it Liverpool.

  • Johnjo says:

Oh yes and by the way Torres has gone to Chelsea and the Queen Mother passed away peacefully in her sleep.

  • daboy says:

He has joined Spurs for 30 mill or there abouts so much for 15 million pounds.
He is over rated anyway i think they dodged a bullet there.

  • Prince owolabi abeeb opeyemi says:

Only tottenham prize can cause trouble LIVERPOOL cos they ready to lure Him @ any prize..
