Why it’s time for Rangers to condemn Ally McCoist to the history books:

4qj3nnShow me a good loser and I will show you a loser. Rangers as a club have lost the winning mentality and fans are left wondering if the club really has moved on from the events of February 2012.

If Rangers have moved on then Ally McCoist, Rangers manager must leave the club. A manager should be judged on results and after the latest humiliation; this time in the first round of the league cup to Forfar; the results have been abysmal and go down as the worst in the club’s history.

Some past Rangers managers are best remembered for the games that they lost rather than the games that they won. Such is the nature of the beast at a club that craves success. Davy White, John Grieg and Paul Le Guen all found out that Rangers is no place for the faint hearted and were all sacked from the Ibrox job; sending out a clear message that second best will not be tolerated.

With the outspoken Charles Green’s controversial return to the club; albeit in a role described as a consultant; history is calling out to Rangers.  Green referred to the current Rangers team as the worst in the club’s history.

What Charles Green is saying hurts the Rangers support but because it is painful it doesn’t make it wrong, regardless of Charles Green’s motives.  Regardless of who owns the club, the job of finding a coach who can handle the unique situation that Rangers find themselves is paramount.

The team lacks tactical awareness, never seems prepared and are constantly taken by surprise by lesser teams and coaches. McCoist keeps giving one excuse after another and his words, this time blaming the direction the wind was blowing, now sound like shallow sound bites as opposed to his from the heart “We don’t do walking away” speech. McCoist’s words on that day will live long in the history of the club and rank alongside those of Rangers greatest manager Bill Struth when he stated “ We welcome the chase” to those who try to challenge Rangers dominance of the Scottish game.

The decision to keep McCoist as manager is a weak one and continues to show how wounded the club is. If history and tradition mean anything and Rangers truly is the same club that it has always been then Ally McCoist should have left the club in the immediate aftermath of the Forfar defeat.

McCoist is taking a huge salary from the club and results have yet to justify this. He is too close to Rangers chairman Walter Smith and there is a ‘job for the boys’ ethos at Ibrox and a lack of leadership.

The return of Charles Green has again rocked the club which has been assailed by multiple scandals and savaged by a furious press. The club has been riddled by one lame duck character after another from former chairman Malcolm Murray, Charles Green and his cohorts, to McCoist’s miserable reign on the park as Rangers manager. The latest episode of the Rangers soap has left the support wondering if there is anyone who can show leadership at the club. From top to bottom the club is making itself an easy target for its enemies and the constant infighting and terrible football on display will ensure that the Rangers story will get a regular mauling in the media.

Sadly for the support the situation is likely to get worse. Those that hold power at Ibrox seem oblivious to the greater need of the club and it is one personal battle after another.  If any of these characters really have Rangers best wishes at heart then they must stop cowering behind the soap opera theatrics and be bold enough to make a statement of intent.

If people are to be judged on performance and ability then the time has come to allow someone more experienced into the Ibrox hot seat.  McCoist’s place in Rangers history is secure. There is no doubt about that, and if history and timing had been kinder then who knows what the outcome would have been. But the sad reality of the situation is that Ally McCoist remaining in his post only confirms what most people know, Rangers are weak and indecisive and if they truly are the same club that has lasted for over 140 years and rose from humble beginning to become the country’s most successful football club, then actions must speak louder than words and someone will have to step up and have the courage to end McCoist’s run as manager of Rangers; and show who really is the boss.

Ally has held the club together throughout the worst spell in the clubs history, he has had to work under pressure that no other Rangers manager has had to work with clowns like Green, think judgements should be put on hold for another month or two, give his team a chance to get on the park.

  • Dee says:

Never heard total rubbish like that in my life . MCCoist hasn’t been able to field a team he built yet last years lot were panic signings as we had no choice and some of the kids simply were just there to fill a jersey and were no were near good enough so lay of MCCoist and make ur judgement at the end of this campaign .

  • GWG says:

ffs~~~~ Cyberteds balls have drapped….. consign Ally tae the history books THAT takes baws tae say laddie

  • A.Carey says:

    What a load of Bollocks

  • Neil says:

What a load of shit!!! Judge him after the transfer embargo is lifted, not a manager in the game has gone thru more crap than him in the last 2 years, the man deserves a chance

And you make it out like hes useless?? He won promotion last year with a frightening points tally and goal difference, get a grip, rome wasnt built in a day

    Long live super ally

  • Steeko says:

Sorry, but I couldn’t disagree with you more. If you were a Rangers fan you would understand that Charles Green isn’t qualified to make statements about my team. He harbours selfish agendas that shouldn’t really be encouraged. Yes, Rangers fans would rather everything was sweet in the garden. But we are not too naive as too really expect normal service to be resumed overnight. History will judge everyone involved with my club in good time. Until then I have no real influence on what happens off the pitch. But I will certainly be supporting my team, and that also includes the manager Ally McCoist. They deserve no less from me at this moment in time.

hes pants through away a 15 point advantage in the league
my local amateur team digs out some tough games but we always play decent football
very rarely do we lose to inferior opposition and if we do we aren’t beaten by anything other than really bad luck
we play 3 tier in Canada and have third tier players couple of second tier “stars” couple of dumplings
give me two tier two players I will win my league every year give me 3 tier one and I would probably win 2 tier on my first go
give me the ability to sign almost anyone from all divisions above me apart from the strongest 50 ill have ma team playng good football in the first tier and competing
and if I didn’t id let somebody else have a go
nae excuses if a was shite I would tell you I wasn’t up to it
all I see is a man that cant get the best of the players he has
that to me im sorry to say is what is generally called a crap manager

    What a load of shite.

The current Rangers team is poor because it is comprised of lower league players and youngsters to get us back up the divisions – not the quality we became accustomed to. Super Ally has to make the best with what he has and will get us promoted no issues.

Anyone expecting dazzling football and thinking Mourinio could do a job for us is an idiot.

    • JayDee says:

BS! McCoist had the team playing absolute rubbish last season. they looked unfit at times and lacked any sense of an idea what they were doing.
His team had the second highest wage budget in scotland and looked like they couldnt kick their own arses.
No drive, no determination, no clue about tactics.
mcCoist will never, ever be a football manager, even though i believe him to be a true ranger and a club legend. He should have stuck to the TV work and left football for ppl who have a clue about the game.

  • Seamus McDermott says:

Absolutely spot on article. You can’t expect the blind to see, in reference to 90% of comments here. Ally will never be a top class manager, may be competitive in the second teir, that is his level. PLG was the last truly visionary manager, but was not supported by the owner who allowed a bunch of needs to run him from the club.

    • Steeko says:

I am afraid Paul Le Guen will go down in history as the worst manager in our history. I am sorry to have to say this to all the Celtic supporters out there. But he isn’t as good as Ally McCoist. A couple of good results in Europe and that was about it. He came to us with great expectations and left unfulfilled and with his tail between his legs. He never ever grasped what our great club is all about. He was fully supported by the owner of the club at the time and he still managed to fail. A shame really as I was looking forward to his appointment.
