Why it’s time for Arsenal to move in for this Spanish sensation:

Iker CasillasAfter starting the season pretty poorly, Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny seems to have pulled it all together.

His performance against Aston Villa, during the Gunners’ 3-1 defeat was disappointing to say the least. Whether he was rushing out at the wrong moment, or failing to get his hands to stoppable shots, Szczesny’s performance was way under par.

Still, he did save a Christian Benteke penalty (before the big Belgium headed in the rebound) and has improved significantly since. Over two legs against Fenerbache, he has pulled off some fantastic reaction saves and he was instrumental in keeping his side in a winning position against Fulham.

I’d argue that Szczesny’s shot-stopping ability has never been in question. He moves across the goal extremely quickly, is agile in the air and has cat-like reactions. What’s in question, is the Pole’s ability to command his area and his decision making.

He can be somewhat rash and sometimes rushes out of his goal-mouth when the better decision would be to stand firm. As such, I’d like to see Arsene Wenger scour the market for a mentor figure. Somebody who could hold the fort for the next three-or-four years, until Szczesny is ready to take the mantle.

That’s where Iker Casillas comes in. The Spanish captain and Real Madrid ace is one of the most highly-rated goal-keepers in world football. He’s exactly the kind of player that Arsenal should be chasing at this stage in their evolution.

According to The Mirror, Casillas is seeking assurances about his future at the Bernabeu, having been left on the bench for his club’s first three games. Given that it’s a World Cup year, the Spaniard is doubtless concerned about his place in his national team.

At the moment, Carlo Ancelotti seems to favour Diego Lopez ahead of Casillas. When asked about why this is the case, the Madrid boss responded (rather curtly) that: “He played the first game and the second. He’s playing well, that’s all there is to it.”

This, I’m sure, is an extremely frustrating position for Casillas to be in. I can’t help but wonder if he wouldn’t be tempted to move to the Emirates at this stage in his career. At 32-years-old, he has the experience and the know-how to guide Szczesny to bigger and better things.

It’s not clear how much this would cost, but I think it would be a good move for all parties involved.

What’s your take? Can you picture Iker Casillas between the sticks at the Emirates?

Yet again Speculation no mater how much is said or written until some one has the balls to stand up to Wenger and co and insist that they look to improve what was once and still can be one of the top clubs in the Europe.I don’t mean that we should dive into the French League’s again for more player’s to warm our benches and be paid well for training.I mean instead of speculating show some real Ambition and put down some serious money on realistic targets and have the deals done,no point at this late stage in the day charging all around Europe on a fools errand. Why not and these player’s have been mentioned all summer put down 35 million and get Williams and Michu from Swansea,i’m not saying they are world beater’s but if Michu can score 20 plus goals with Swansea then i’m sure with the chance’s we create he would equal if not better that.Williams not quite the same class as Sol Cambell was but a player built very much the same and knows how to play with the ball at his feet would add some much needed support to a creaking defence. As for a new goalkeeper i see no reason what so ever not to snatch Cesar from QPR,this guy has won so much and has the Experience that we need between out posts,it is also world cup year as we know and he will be going flat out to hold onto his No 1 position for Brazil.Lastly and i know its said that this player is not for sale but why not chance our Arm and test Chelsea and 35 / 40 million on the table and sign Mata, we wanted him 2 year’s ago and now we know he can perform in our league i’m sure he along with other 3 guys iv’e mentioned would go along way to pushing us all the way towards the TOP SPOT.All 4 player’s are here nice and local and if we are really SERIOUS ABOUT CHALLENGING FOR THE TOP HONOURS THEN LETS GET THESE 4 PLAYERS BOUGHT INTO OUR CLUB.I didn’t mean to go on but this looks to me like a very good option.
