Another missed opportunity for Arsenal?

Luiz GustavoArsenal fans, are you ready for a heady case of deja vu?

The Gunners have been a particularly deprived lot this summer, with the club taking part in very little transfer activity. As such, I’m sure that most fans have a deeply ingrained memory of all the players they have been linked to.

Players like former Real Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain, who looked like a nailed on signing for Arsenal before his club agreed a £34.5m deal with Napoli. It was an opportunity lost for the Gunners, who have been quiet ever since.

Recently, the rumour mill lit up with stories linking Arsenal to Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo. The player has even spoken out about his desire to move to The Emirates:

“I am in a very delicate situation at Bayern and this needs sorting out. I have personal and professional reasons to move. I have heard about the Arsenal interest. It’s a big club we’re talking about here so of course I’d like to play for them.”

Everything seemed to be falling in place. That meant that it was time for somebody else to crash the party. According to The BBC, Bundesliga club Wolfsburg have agreed a deal to sign Gustavo and leave Arsenal empty handed once more.

Isn’t that just typical? I highly doubt that Wolfsburg provided more appeal to the Brazilian than Arsenal and yet the North London side has missed out yet again. It’s becoming an all-too familiar story.

With all the new midfielders arriving at the Allianz Arena this summer, there wasn’t  a place for the Brazilian at Bayern Munich. With the player desperate for first team football in the run up to the World Cup, the Bundesliga side would be willing to let him go for a fair price.

Since Alex Song left, Arsenal have had a pressing need to sign another defensive midfielder. Mikel Arteta has been forced to deputise and whilst he’s done a good job, should be playing further up the pitch.

Luiz Gustavo ticks all the boxes and with the World Cup fast approaching, would have been desperate to impress. With his strength, dynamism and athleticism, he’d certainly have made an impact in the Premier League.

Arsenal fans can only crease their brows and wonder why Arsene Wenger has let another opportunity pass him by. It’s just another addition to what’s been a singularly disappointing summer for Arsenal.

What’s your take? Will Arsenal regret not signing Gustavo?

You are crying over spilled milk. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Wenger has made up his mind not to sign anyone even if the players throw themselves on him. Even the Suarez saga is something I know too well will go up in smoke. The Manager is to powerful to be a football manager. He scouts, negotiates, signs, involve in medical and coach and even the club’s financial dealings with corporate organisation. By involving himself in all these, when will he have the time to do the footballing aspect he was employed to do? So I advise Kreonke to employ specialist into these whole areas outside Wenger’s purview to enable perform as a coach.

There is no way lot of chances wouldn’t have eluded Wenger. He and who-so-ever saddled with the transfer business have a hiden agenda. They are no so serious minded in doing any transfer for the team with all the £70m warchest entrusted to them. Though, its been quite a thing we Fans are used to. On the last day of the summer transfer matket, Wengers speech will be “There are no players in the market”. Who is foiling who? Its all great deceit where the likes of Huguain, Gustavo, Cavani etc were taken from under their nose. The window will soon close, I can bet it they are not ready for any world class footballer addition to the current squad. We should stop waisting our precoius time. Fans are not Dear to Wenger and the Board. I am highly intimidated because of humiliation from other clubs Fans. Mostly, yesterday 1 – 3 thrashing right inside Emirate stadium. Gunner 4 life.

Wenger will not change! It takes only a miser to analyse a particular player 24/7 when he knows that there are clubs out there to snap him up within a blink. The players records are there. If you don’ t want him, go for who you want and don’t waste time.

Those years when he has to spent the little the club could generate has really eaten deep in him that he can no longer spend even when there is much available to spend. Someone should tell that man to spend that f*****g money because that is not his fathers money.
