Yohan CabayeDespite not having his best season last year, Yohan Cabaye has earned a fair amount of attention this summer. He’s already attracted the attentions of Manchester United and now it looks like other clubs are piling in.

Alan Pardew and the rest of the Newcastle United top brass must be beginning to sweat. The Magpies wont want to lose one of their best players so close to the new season beginning.

According to The Star, both Tottenham and Paris Saint Germain are keen to get their hands on the 27-year-old.

PSG’s manager, Laurent Blanc has spoken openly about this fact: “He is a very good player, I have not changed my mind. I read that Tottenham are also interested. Newcastle, Tottenham or Paris, I hope he will be at a big club in September.”

As previously mentioned, Cabaye wasn’t at his best last year. But then again, neither was the rest of the Newcastle team. With the Magpie’s strikers misfiring, midfielders like Cabaye found it difficult to make their mark.

There’s a good chance that if Alan Pardew bolstered his forward line in some meaningful way, Cabaye’s influence would improve next season. Of course, that depends on the Frenchman remaining at St James’ Park.

Whilst it would be a shame for Newcastle to let him go, they would certainly turn a tidy profit on the £4.5m they spent on him just two years ago.

PSG’s interest in the player speaks volumes. The Paris side have almost unlimited funds and could afford to go after players with much higher price-tags. But they’ve chosen to pursue Cabaye because he’s the real deal.

Whilst Tottenham can’t really compete financially with PSG, I do hope the test the Ligue 1 club’s resolve.

Whilst Spurs have already brought in a world-class striker this summer, they need a creative midfielder to provide Roberto Soldado with opportunities to comvert.

Yohan Cabaye has the ability, vision and speed-of-thought to carve open defenses and pick out ‘killer-balls’. Once he gets on the same wavelength as Soldado, the pair could be instrumental to Tottenham’s Champions League hopes next year.

I’m sure PSG will have their own say, but it’s up to Andre Villas-Boas and co. to ensure Tottenham remain an enticing proposition. Let’s hope Spurs can pull this one off!

What’s your take? Would you like to see Yohan Cabaye move to Spurs?
