Lu-Is Not Bigger Than Liverpool!

|

But the baffling thing about this whole case is the mercurial nature of Suarez himself. Whilst on Confederations Cup duty with Uruguay he stated his disdain for the British media was the pivotal factor behind his quest in seeking a move away. He has now changed his mind and decided a move to Arsenal would be better because they offer Champions League Football. But realistically will Arsenal be competing for the league? Will they be able to launch an assault on the Champions League? Isn’t going to London, where the media scrutiny is even more intense going to “drive” Suarez out of the country?

Ironic considering Olivier Giroud has come into his own in pre-season and is beginning to look like the striker Arsenal paid £17 million for. Armed with a £70 million kitty, it could be argued Arsene Wenger would be better off strengthening other areas of the team. Buying Suarez would eat into a large chunk of their transfer chest; it also goes against Arsenal’s own transfer ethics having never bid over £20 million for a player, tending to focus on developing their own stars.

Caught in a catch twenty-two situation, Rodgers faces a great predicament. If he keeps Suarez against his wishes, Luis could revolt and decide not to play, as he did for a previous Dutch club before he engineered his move to Ajax. That would also mean paying an exorbitant amount of wages for nothing, going efforts to cut wasteful spending, after shifting players like Andy Carroll and Joe Cole.

Should Liverpool sell Suarez to Arsenal, it means giving Arsenal a greater advantage in gaining the coveted Champions League spot. £40 million would be a pittance of his value considering how much Edison Cavani went for and the monstrous figures being bandied about for Gareth Bale. If Luis Suarez was sold, he would preferably go to a foreign club and in excess of £50 million, but likely suitors Real Madrid have backed off.

Should the case go to arbitration, it is widely believed Liverpool will win the case. The clause would have alerted more clubs, but only Arsenal have come forward with a bid, which illustrates that perhaps the cause is not as concrete as Suarez thinks.

One also has to question his word having already been guilty of a racism charge where he apparently regaled the FA with inaccurate accounts of the incident with Patrice Evra. Comments made to the media accusing Rodgers of reneging do not seem plausible at this current juncture.

There are two ideal outcomes for Liverpool. He should stay and give Liverpool one more year to help them get into the Champions League. Should this fail he can then leave for a certain amount. Should he leave, he must go abroad as going to Arsenal just isn’t feasible for Liverpool.

One thing is for sure, if history is anything to go by, when Fernando Torres left, Liverpool did find a replacement. Liverpool fans in the greater run will know Luis Suarez is not bigger than the club.
