Is this man the last piece of Liverpool’s transfer jigsaw puzzle?

Christian EriksenLiverpool have made some exciting signings over the course of the summer, but they’re yet to add a marquee signing, or a big name to their squad.

Players like Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet are likely to have a big impact throughout the rest of the season, but if the Reds are to truly improve and start challenging for a top four slot, there’s still some more work to be done.

Luckily, Brendan Rodgers seems to be aware of this fact: “I don’t think there is any doubt we need that [to add to the team]. The players we have brought in have added great depth and support to the team, but that bit of quality now coming into the group could really set us up.” (Source: The Liverpool Daily Post)

That’s exactly right. But who should the Reds be looking to bring in? How about a man who has been on the club’s radar for sometime: Christian Eriksen?

As The Star has reported, Liverpool have been named favourites to sign the Ajax youngster. Unfortunately, they’re going to face some competition. His attorney, Martin Schoots has already revealed that there have been offers from the Bundesliga and Serie A for his client:

“Yes there was a proposal from an Italian club, but I’d prefer not to say which one, and there was a proposal from a German club too.”

I’m not surprised that there’s so much attention around the 21-year-old. Despite his youth, he’s already established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe.

He’s got a quick, intelligent footballing brain, great feet and the ability to pick out a good pass. He’s also sure to chip in throughout a season with important goals. In many senses, he’s your typical, all action midfielder. It can’t be all that surprising that he’s earned comparison’s to Liverpool legend, Steven Gerrard, even if he still has a long way to go.

It’s not clear how much Ajax would demand for the Danish midfielder. But, with his current contract running down, I’m sure they’d be keen to get the business done, before he leaves on a free. Now seems like the right time for Liverpool to swoop in and tempt his paymasters.

His signing could be exactly what the Reds need to steer them towards next season. But he’s also one for the future. Who knows how influential he may be over the next 3-or-4 seasons?

What’s your take? Should the Reds look to agree a deal for Christian Eriksen?

In answer to the headline question – “No”. A top quality CB was needed, and before Toure was injured last night

Seriously the defense isn’t as bad as ppl think just the season before with Kenny we had one of the best defense in the league with agger & skertel(player of the season and wanted by city) as center backs so u ppl think all of a sudden Skertel it no good he just need to get bk to that level, and their is young Martin Kelly but Brendan should have sold Coates I know he’s injuried and Liam out wisdom and get Richards(£15 mill) fr city young and good and I think he want to be playing football caz next year is the World Cup and he want to make the England team.

On Erikson(£15mill) I’ve being saying this all along Brendan should sign this guy, he’s a up grade on hendo and Allen and would come cheaper than is actual value caz he only have a year remaining on is contract, along with him he should try and bring in Ben hafa(£8mill) Newcastle.

    Mignolet
    Johnson– Richards– agger–Enrique
    Gerrard—– Lucas—-Erikson
    Sturidge —-Suarez—- continho

Bench: jones Skertel hendo Benhafa aspas Raheem Allen.
    That’s a top four side.
