Could Manchester United really pull off this outrageous swap-deal?

Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland - Premier LeagueIt’s been interesting to watch Manchester United attempt to re-connect with an old flame this summer. According to numerous different sources at a number of different stages this summer, David Moyes and co. have been attempting to secure a deal for former United winger, Cristiano Ronaldo.

As unlikely as this deal may appear on paper, it’s worth noting that Ronaldo has previously spoken of being ‘unhappy’ at Real Madrid and of the fact that he loves Premier League football. As such, there’s the feeling that the player himself may fancy a move.

But are United really interested? There’s no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo would waltz his way into any team in world football. He’s the second best player in world football and has already established his place in the history books.

But it’s worth noting that over the course of the next season he’ll turn 29-years-old. If he were to sign for Manchester United, it would likely be his last major contract and he would offer extremely limited re-sale value. He would significantly improve the Red Devils, but he’d also leave the club’s financials in a mess.

This brings me to The Stars‘ seemingly preposterous claim that Manchester United are weighing up a move for Tottenham star Gareth Bale. They suggest that United are willing to ‘stun Real Madrid’ by ‘nipping in ‘ and ‘gatecrashing’ the Galactico’s move for the Welsh wizard.

They also suggest that United are willing to send Javier Hernandez in the other direction as part of the deal.

The papers have invented any number of potential Gareth Bale swap deals for Spurs fans to consider this summer. The offer of Javier Hernandez (plus a large heap of cash, of course), must finally be one that provides some temptation.

Yes, Andre Villas-Boas has already signed Roberto Soldado, but given Spurs’ weaknesses upfront, bringing in a proven Premier League striker like Hernandez would be a good move. Still, I’m sure they’d turn down any such move unless United were willing to offer an astronomical fee (say, perhaps… the fee they would have spent on Ronaldo?).

As unlikely as this deal is to happen, wouldn’t Bale, at 24-years-old, be a better fit at Old Trafford than the aging Ronaldo?

Yes, Ronaldo and United have history together, but it’s time to start looking to the future.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United pursue Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale? Can they afford to be in the market for either player?

First Ronaldo is the best player in the world. If you don’t believe me look at it this way. They are both world class dribblers, but Ronaldo has a little more flair. They are both excellent shooters, although most of Messi’s goals come from within the penalty area. Ronaldo on the other hand hit a screamer every other game it seems. Ronaldo is stronger than Messi and less injury prone. Ronaldo can jump higher making him dangerous on set pieces. Think of the last time you saw messi win a header for a goal..or at all. On a skill level they are extremely close, but on a physical level.. Ronaldo is worlds ahead.

D moyes should consider 2 holding midfield at man u 4 us to regain d title again

  • Jojo jr. says:

Come on ! Ronaldo is far far far better than Bale.. And no team will choose Bale Ahead of cr7 despite cr’s age. He’s by far the best player in my world..Take it or leave it

  • owen says:

i agree cr7 best player id rather ronaldo but bale class too either would be excellant i think buy bale now get ronaldo in two years for free along with buying gundogan and baines it would cost 120 million but sell anderson nani macheda bebe will get near 35 million and we would have to buy small for three years

  • Nick says:

CR7 is proven world class , from an attacking point of view he can do it all . He is a winner and regardless of the fee or market re sale value , manchester United should bring him back . If he were to sign shirt sales alone would go through the roof . He would more than cover his worth and best of all he would win you trophies and that’s what the fans want and that’s what Manchester United want . Nike , Chevrolet , and Aon come to the party boys and make it happen .

  • blessings says:

cr7 is the best player in the world no doubt about it and bale is getting there.signing cr7 can continue help us manutd fans to still put on happy faces.i cant wait

  • Lucky says:

Both players are good but will need our son back ronaldo or if madrid refuse to sell than united should sign bale this season and let me wron you david moyes if you fail to sign ronaldo or bale this season than pls leave united alone

    • United83 says:

Correct me if im wrong but you are saying if Moyes doesnt sign Ronaldo or Bale, then he should leave united?
      Thats ridiculous.
Stick by your new manager. It wont be easy for him the first year or two. Especially with fans like you.

  • Scott says:

Any midfield player that can score more goals in more games played suggests he is the greatest of all time. Ronnie should never feel second best to anyone even messi. With the class Barcelona have you would expect and class forward to net as many goals as messi given the chances created. Bale will go to Madrid but cr7 will be back home soon. Love to see a marquee signing but zaha is definitely the one to watch its like cr7 when he first arrived. Love Rooney but rvp is the best striker in the premier league so wayne should think where he is best at in a red shirt or playing in a blue shirt with same old chelsea always cheating. Utd will retain the league. Moyes is a diamond.

  • Suresh says:

Day in and day out,its united buying every player in the world, but nothing till now, come on, if youre buying just buy, and if the Glazers are not giving you the cash just say so and dont go round saying you buying the whole world. I’m a die hard united fan but I’m telling you all at united, youre gona lose the damn title

  • manufcCR7 says:

Bale is a good player but what’s not to say he’ll do a Torres?, its a bit unlikely but may happen and with Ronaldo you know he’s gonna deliver as he’s done it before. And Ronaldo last year sold over 1million shirts which is over 40mill. Give 17mill a year He’ll come.

  • emmydon says:

yes marque sighing or leave united slow scot…….@moy

    • United83 says:

      Smarten up.
Are all united fans like this?
it seems like it these days.

You cant always get the best players.
You sound like kids that dont get the toy they want for xmas.

  • gypsydanger says:

Bale is a much much better acquisation than ronaldo…but there is one tiny little thing and that is Levy..that selfish moron will refuse any sales to a rival…it’ll take probably 100 mil to crack that numbskull of his and provide the green light…i think we r looking at a double blow…shud just get fellaini baines n gundogan if possible n start defending their title
