Could Liverpool pull off this £6m bargain deal?

Scott SinclairWhilst he may be a talented footballer, Scott Sinclair doesn’t strike you as a career minded individual. There’s every chance that he could have become a regular at both club and International level, had he found his level and applied himself properly. As it is, however, his career has stalled in a big way.

At 24-years-old, he’s no longer a ‘bright young thing’ with the future ahead of him. He’s now at the stage of his career where he needs to be making his mark and popping up in the papers on a near weekly basis.

We know that he’s capable of doing this. He is, after all, a talented footballer. But he’s put himself in a position where there are no opportunities available to him. Before he agreed a four-year contract with Manchester City last August, fans and pundits alike were decrying the move.

There seemed to be a desire from those who had watched him blossom as a youngster, to prevent him joining a club where he would inevitably fade into obscurity. Unfortunately, Sinclair must have either had dollar signs in his eyes, or taken some bad advice (or both) as he opted to leave Swansea City (where he was excelling) for a move to the Etihad.

As expected, he flopped, making only 3 starts for the club in his first season. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s already looking to move on.

Liverpool have just lost Stewart Downing (hurrah!) and may well be on the hunt for another winger. According to The Star, City are after £2m upfront for a loan deal and will request a further £4m in years’ time to complete the deal. His pace and trickery down the wings could well be an asset for the club this season.

The Reds could be on the brink of a bargain here.

Whilst Sinclair may have to take a pay-cut to make a move to Liverpool happen, any such move would provide evidence of a change in philosophy from the winger. It would prove that he values regular football over a meaty pay-check and that he’s ready to start building a legacy.

If Liverpool can re-ignite his ambition then Scott Sinclair may well end up being one of Brendan Rodger’s best signings.

What’s your take? Should the Reds be in the market for this Manchester City reject?

Lol Sinclair is more of a gamble than a bargain and if your’e not good enough for man city then you are definately not good enough for LFC

    • Blue knight says:

How old are you? Its a long time since that statement was true.

    • HeavyRiffs says:

So you class Liverpool as better than City do you currently? Third, First and second in their last three seasons.
      Hilario, that is hilarious.

  • Bill says:

A loan deal initially for the first half of the season on a free could be a good move. He could be another Sturridge.

  • daboy says:

I am pretty sure 6 mill on sinclair 20 mill on Alderweireld and Erikson is money better spent than 30 mill on that over rated Willian.

    • TheWildun says:

I disagree that Willian is overrated! Anyone that has watched him regularly in the Champions League/ Europa will tell you of his quality. £30m? Worth every penny!

If we can get him then there is no room in our squad for Sinclair. If he moves elsewhere through then Sinclair initially on loan is a great alternative

  • murt says:

this guy was never spectacular, but was capable of doing a good job on the wings,i would not mind him there at all.the more competition for spaces the better.

    LOL

6m for another over hyped English player, when the same amount can bring Diego Capel at lower salary.

2m in total or NO THANKS – MCity is trying to off-load their salary expence, just like us for Downing. We should play smart like West Ham.
