Could this £13.7m rated target be exactly what Liverpool need?

Wilfried BonyWilfried Bony is a name that has been tossed around in conjunction with Premier League clubs for a number of years now. It’s also a name that’s difficult to forget once you’ve heard it.

Ever since his early days at Sparta Prague, he’s attracted attention due to his pace, power and presence up front. He also has an easy confidence in front of goal.

Before last season, his best return was 17 goals in 24 games back in 2010-11. It wasn’t until last year, at new club Vitesse, however, that he really announced himself. The plucky centre forward scored an impressive 37 goals in 36 appearances.

Highlight’s included a surprise victory against Ajax (thanks to a Bony brace – that’s fun to say!) and hat-tricks against Heerenveen and Heracles Almelo. The Ivorian international was in fine form all year.

It’s little surprise that Premier League clubs are finally starting to make inquiries, following years of interest in the player.

According to The Mirror, Michael Laudrup has even launched a £13.7m bid to bring him to Swansea City this summer. But that’s not it. They quote Bony’s agent, Francis Kacou, who says:

“West Ham, Everton and Liverpool have been reported as having an interest, but Swansea has made the best offer. I want clarity, and a promise is a promise. One thing is for sure, he will not be playing for Vitesse this season.”

That sounds pretty definitive. It looks like his Eredivisie days are over. Still, it’s interesting to see Liverpool’s interest in the player. After all, he trialed with the Reds back in 2007, but was not offered a contract. Wouldn’t it be something if he ended up at Anfield after all?

It wouldn’t surprise me all that much. Despite signing Daniel Sturridge last January, Liverpool could still use recruits upfront. Luis Suarez’s future remains shrouded in mystery and beyond these two the Reds have very little to turn to.

A player like Bony, who has a good goal scoring record (and a lot more besides) would make for an excellent second or third choice striker. At just 24-years-old, he also has time to grow and improve as a player. Indeed, over the next 2-3 seasons, he could become a real world-beater.

His price-tag is only likely to grow and grow. Now’s the time to strike!

What’s your take? Should the Reds look to hijack the Swan’s move for Wilfried Bony?

lfc are too slow in this summer transfer and they’re too slow for my likeing. At least lfc should’ve completed 3 to 4 more signings and end it there. Aly cissoko a left back that will bring competion to jose enrinque, c.benteke that is if suarez move on, jorginho and c. Eriksen. Then we will not only be hoping to make it in d top 4, we’ll be hoping to bring back the premier league.
