Can Arsenal REALLY pull off this shock £25m deal?

Cesc FabregasSince Cesc Fabregas flew Arsenal’s coup for the Camp Nou back in summer 2011, the Gunners have lacked proper spark in their midfield. Fabregas’ midfield magicianry has proven to be difficult to replace.

His exit has allowed the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta to shine, but this hasn’t stopped fans from missing their ex-Captain.

As such, it was only a matter of time before Fabregas got linked with a move back to his former club. This is especially true given his difficulties last season.

When Fabregas first left Arsenal, there were concerns as to where he’d fit into Barcelona’s team. With players like Xavi and Andres Iniesta impossible to dislodge from Barca’s starting line-up and plenty of others vying for a place in the squad, he was always going to struggle.

Last season was particularly difficult, with Fabregas starting on the bench more often than he’d probably like. At least he had Alex Song to keep him company.

The Daily Mail claim that though Fabregas has repeatedly insisted that he wants to stay with Barca and fight for his place in the squad, he may be willing to move on this summer. It’s thought that he’s concerned about how he fits into Tito Vilanova’s plans next year. This has opened the door for a move back to the Emirates.

The Mail even claim that an Arsenal deal for Fabregas would be easy to engineer. They suggest that a £25m Arsenal first-option clause was written into his Barcelona contract, as a condition of his transfer.

Naturally, I’d take these claims with a big pinch of salt. It all seems a little bit too good to be true.

If Cesc Fabregas really is available for just £25m this summer, Arsenal would be foolish not to make a deal happen. Whilst the Gunners don’t really need yet another attacking midfielder, this opportunity looks a little too good to pass up.

All they need to do is convince Cesc to leave his boyhood club and move back to the Premier League. This would be no small task. If he is concerned about his future, however, it’s up to Arsenal to provide him with an ‘out’.

The thought of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Cesc Fabregas being part of one midfield is extremely exciting. Combine this midfield with a proper strike-force (Gonzalo Higuain?) and Arsenal could establish themselves as a real force again.

What’s your take? Could Arsenal really secure a shock deal for Cesc Fabregas?

What on earth are you on about? Last season, Cesc played more than either of those 2. Also scored more goals/minute. He’s doing fine where he is.
