Ryan BertrandIt’s been fascinating to see Brendan Rodgers go about his business this summer. The former Swansea City boss has been in charge for a full year now at Liverpool and will have garnered a decent understanding of his squad’s failings.

He spent much of last season talking up and defending his team’s shabby performances, but given the way he’s been bringing in players this summer, it’s clear that he’s not completely satisfied.

It’s been exciting watching the club take action, whilst others have sat still. Liverpool may not have much money to spend, but Rodgers has been putting it to good use.

Players like Simon Mignolet and Iago Aspas will have an immediate impact at the club, whilst youngsters like Luis Alberto will surely leave the mark over the next few years.

At one point this summer Liverpool seemed to be in the market for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Unfortunately, he ended up moving to Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have been fairly quiet in the transfer market ever since.

Perhaps they’ve focused their attentions on keeping Suarez at the club, but I’d like to think there are more deals to be done this summer.

Interestingly enough, The Mirror recently ran a story suggesting that Liverpool had lodged an enquiry regarding the availability of Chelsea left-back, Ryan Bertrand.

Bertrand is a fantastic young full-back, who suffers the misfortune of being behind Ashley Cole in the pecking order. Though Ashley may be getting on in years, he’s still one of the best defenders in world football. If Bertrand decides to stick it out with the Blues, he may have to bide his time.

Bertrand’s made it clear that he wants to stick it out:

“I see my future being Chelsea’s number one (left-back). I don’t concentrate on trying to dislodge him (Cole). I just focus on myself and my game and I’m sure that time will come.” (Source: The Mirror)

But I can’t help but wonder if he could have his head turned by a top club like Liverpool who could offer him regular football.

Whilst signing another full-back isn’t a priority for Liverpool, bringing in somebody as talented as Ryan Bertrand would be a good move for the club. There’s every chance that he’ll develop into a world-class, Ashley Cole-esque left-back in the new future.

Liverpool’s inquiries have been turned down by Chelsea, but in this case, I hope Brendan sticks with it. He could be just the pick-up that the Reds need.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool make a move for Ryan Bertrand?

    sensational, talent, British?????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

& this sort of media hype allows to dream 60K/week for those English so called “talunts”. I am quite happy that BR hasn’t lost his head; there are much better potential at half salary in mainland Europe.
