£60m? Are Manchester United having a laugh?

Image for £60m? Are Manchester United having a laugh?

Gareth BaleTottenham fans are used to seeing speculation surrounding their Welsh wizard, Gareth Bale, but things really seem to have come to a head this summer. When his presence on the FIFA 14 box and various advertisements wearing a Spurs shirt is analysed into the ground, you know that trouble is brewing.

Whilst the Papers and online media don’t help, you don’t have a season like Bale’s 2012/13 showing and expect to have a quiet summer. Despite his hefty price-tag, I’m sure Gareth Bale’s agent has been kept fairly busy since the transfer window re-opened and not had much time to conduct football betting at betfair.

Labeling Spurs a one man team would be unfair, but Bale’s contribution last season was sizable. His ability to save games, pull a goal out of nowhere and cause havoc with his direct running often made the difference last year. Whilst it wasn’t enough to secure Champions League football (a very close run thing), it was certainly enough to make the rest of the world sit up and take note.

We’ve heard a fair amount regarding Manchester United’s interest, but it’s always seemed a little bit too good to be true. Can the Red Devils really afford to smash their transfer record and bring Bale in?

According to The Mirror, United have launched a ‘massive’ £60m bid for Gareth Bale. Whilst that is indeed a massive fee, it’s worth noting immediately that it’s not going to be enough to tempt Tottenham to sell.

As things current stand, Gareth Bale is (arguably) the third best player in the world. He’s also only 24-years-old. He’s an absolutely sensational talent who is only going to get better. Given the current state of the transfer market and the fact that Spurs don’t have a pressing need to sell, £60m is unlikely to be enough.

As was the case with his Cesc Fabregas bid, David Moyes has gone in too low. Still, it’s getting to the stage where signing Bale is just about the only thing that will stop the flow of nonsense that’s constantly being spread about Wayne Rooney. It would provide a welcome change of channel.

If United are genuinely interested, it’ll be fascinating to see exactly how far they’re willing to go and whether they can offer enough to tempt Tottenham to sell. Signing Bale would more or less secure United success for the next half decade or so, but it comes with a cost.

What’s your take? Can Spurs afford to chase Gareth Bale?

Will spurs sell Gareth for 60 million plus Rooney swap

  • Boy Charioteer says:

When I take my dog for a walk there is a dog that perpetually chases his own tail. If this went on to infinity and beyond he would strive in vain. The laws of physics prevent him from achieving his objective. However I do believe he has more chance of actually catching his tail than Man. U do of signing Bale.

  • Cartel says:

Levy would never sell bale to Utd.

    Why would he?
Chelsea found that out with modric .
And the situation with Utd and levy is dire.
Add that to the fact Madrid will pay a ronaldo type fee for bale

  • Abdulrashid itopa says:

David moyes should try and sign one player for we tried of rumour.

  • Jumping Jesus says:

Your article does imply though, that there is a price at which as a Spurs fan, you would be willing to sell. As a United fan I can never imagine being willing to sell such a player at any price. This always seems to be the case. I used to hear similar things about Berbatov and that is why Tottenham will always be a small club, because it’s all about the dollar. Now there’s good chaps and hand him over

    • Liam Dennis says:

The figure would be similar to the one you sold Ronaldo for. Although I still think we’d resist it. Now, enjoy a decade of winning f*ck all under new management, there’s good chaps.

      • kindalem says:

Oh,Dennis,Ronaldo was and is a different class. bale now can never nearer him of Ronaldo’s that time either in talent or year based performance

    • michael jaffa says:

us a small club u moron let me gues the nearest you have been to see your team when u watch corrie bloody glory hunter, be a good boy and f/ off u pratt

    • oldun says:

Blimey. Rodney-well cretin posting is clearly a plonker is now also arrogant. Spurs won’t sell Bale at any price whereas I believe United sold their star, Ronaldo! ! United are not exempt! !

    • Madam says:

That explain why utd sold their best player in Ronaldo then? Silly comment

    • THFC- dave says:

We turned down £85 mil so your £60 mil is not buying bale and as for berbatov he done you well ha ha how many mil did he cost and we are a small club maybe to you but 6 points for us this year your doomed no fergie

    • My Heart Is White says:

Sit down jumping jesus you extremely arrogant fool. As a Spurs fan, I’d like to speak for all Spurs fans when I say FU(K OFF YOU HORRIBLE LITTLE CRETIN!

    • birdman says:

yer yer yer…..dream on. Manure have that much debt that there is no way they’ll spend that sort of money. Plus Levy can’t stand Manure after the Berba debacle.
PS. Just remember what happened to Liverpool once their great manager moved on……mid table mediocre.
Enjoy your time while you have it……..
Spurs will always be better than Manure……first team to win the FA cup as a non league club, first team to win 11 games in a row at the start of the season (still to be beaten), first team to win the second and then first division in concurrent seasons, first team to win the double, first British team to win a Euro cup, first British team to win two Euro cups…..lots of firsts Manure can never have.
Yes, Manure have done well in the past 15/20 years….but just like any empire it does get conquered……hope you enjoy watching Shity take the medals for the coming years hahahahahahahahahaha.

      • billz says:

Lol very ironic a lot of first for alot of second rate trophies. How many champions league have you won, how many trebles? Back to back to back league titles? Liverpool fumbled because they sold there best players. Man u are not selling there best players. Man u have young squad. They have winning mentality. Moyes is smart, he got experience in with him, neville and giggs. Moyes with very little money has done really well with everton. Cinsistently been top 6

    • Spurs1069 says:

As a life long spurs fan I actually feel that for once we have reason to be optimistic . All the sports writers can hypothesize all they want , come up with massive numbers , Bale is going nowhere , AVB and Levy , have said Bale is not for sale at any price . Moreover , Bale is not like Berbatov or Modric , he has a sense of loyalty and respects his club and teammates. The club stuck by Bale and now he’s going to do the same . I’m not naive enough to think he will not go at some point , but it won’t be this year . So to all Madrid and United fans , better luck next year . COYS

    • Chr155yb says:

You sold Ronaldo and now you’re trying to get him back. What are you talking about? Small brain.

    • Rochard says:

      Ronaldo?

      Man U cretin

    • SP says:

Like most ‘limited’ types, you have totally misread the situation in your primitive arrogance.
You support a club who, wel into Beetroot Head’s tenure, was not really that far ahead of Spurs. United had won mroe league titles, Spurs had won more cups; United had won the European Cup, Spurs had won 3 European trophies. If you want to be childish about it, yeah, United were slightly ahad and had won the more prestigious trophies – but not by much, certainly not by enough for any Manchester United fan to be so totally disrespectful.
Then you lucked out a bit: You got Ferguson after he had agreed to join Spurs and his wife put the brakes on the move. You lucked out in getting a fantastic group of young players through all at the same time (just as we have lucked out, now, with Bale) – and that was the mainstay of your team until, well, last season. You lucked out in that your board invested in the stadium when it seemed madness to do so as attendances were falling due to the hooligan problem. Spurs went through absolute turmoil, and were close to economic collapse, and that has resulted in 25 years were they have gone from being one of the Big Five, to a time in the wilderness – something any true United fan should appreciate as survival and recovery from near annihilation as a club is one of their most deeply cherished traditions. No to mention the fact that Spurs were leading English football in terms of marketing, until Venables foolishly dismissed their head man, who was snapped up by…United, for whom he revolutionised marketing income.
Things have changed and Spurs are very much on the up again. We sold Carrick to you – not entirely willingly. We used that money. You forced us to sell Berbatov, we used that money. You couldn’t force us to sell Modric – or did you miss that. We used that money. Now, if we sell it will be to Madrid – for a humungous amount of money – that we will use. Don’t be too sure we will ever be forced to sell another player after that – if even that happens.
We have an excellent young squad, one of the World’s best players, a top young coach, one of the most highly rated youth set-ups in the country, the best youth personnel in the country, not according to me, according to Liam Brady, the statte of the art training facilities in the country, and a new stadium with a greatly increased capacity.

You had one amazing epoch of succes under Beetroot Head, fair play to you, but stop acting like you have an absolute right to an everlasting ascendency – you bluddy well don’t. Watch this space, because even having to compete with two sugar-daddy clubs we have forced ourselves into to four contention, and are only getting started. And you will not be getting Gareth Bale directly from THFC – I can promise you that.
So you just toodle off now and deal with David Moyes and how he is going to handle the poisoned chalice of all poisoned chalices, there’s a good chap ;-/

  • moses says:

Lets face the truth! appointing Moyes was a mistake and now the chickens are coming home to roost! Man utd will not sign anyone this summer! The only arrivals are the coaches from Everton. The papers are just moving numbers with these rumours! Are we the next Liverpool? Only time will tell!

  • Mo says:

Lol, Bale has a couple of good seasons and hes the third best player in the world? Are you having a laugh? Have you forgotten about Iniesta, Xavi, Ozil? Falcao has also had a few good seasons. Oh and also, £60m will be the second highest trasnfer fee for a player EVER. And youre saying its not enough to sell Bale for?
I think £60m is too much for him tbh.

    • Boy Charioteer says:

Good. I assume now that his ratings have taken such a nose dive in the past few minutes (by your reckoning) that Man U will stop this bidding nonsense?

    • SP says:

I merely repeat what the general media concensus is.
I have little interest in rating players from various incomparable positions as though they can be directly compared – they can’t.
The truth is, whether you, in your sad, incapable of seeing logic becuase you are so partisan way, like to admit it or not, that:
      A) That is how the media are portraying it;
      B) He is currently the most sought after player, and would probably be third most sought after if Messi and Ronaldo were also on the market.

I note Real Madrid aren’t pulling the dodgy shenanigans they have been pulling for any current United player.

Who cares if you think £60 million would be too much for him, it wouldn’t be enough to buy him, and United won’t be buying him anyway – and those is the facts.

  • Truth says:

Possibly 3rd best player in the world?! He is good but he isn’t in iniesta’s league yet. In all honesty Suarez despite his controversy is still more of a dangerous player. Needs to move to a champions league team and do it against the best teams on a consistent basis before we start talking about him being the 3rd best player in the world!

    • SP says:

As said above, that is the media label.
Suarez is soooooooooooo much better than him, that is why he swept the board of individual honours and clubs are talking about being prepared to pay a World record fee for him – oh, no, way a minute, they aren’t that’s Bale.

CL team, yada yada yada…Spurs have finsihed 4th twice in the last four seasons, and the other two missed out by one point, three seasons ago because Fulop threw the ball into his own net three times, this season, with a record points haul despite it being a transition season, with a horrible injury list. It is not like we are talking about a side consistently finishing in the bottom half of the table. Spurs have earned the right to be classed as as close as a gnat’s chuff to being a CL team.

  • Dunpy01 says:

I’d hazard a guess and plump for £70m which should be about right, considering Ronaldo went for £80m. And Bale is not in Ronaldo’s league atm…

  • Ray says:

When are you cunts going to get into your thick skulls that Daniel Levy & the Spurs board will not sell Bale to another EPL club. How many times must you be told both by Levy and the manager that Bale is not for sale at any price. Are you dead & dumb?

  • Prince Eshiet says:

Man United, if every better player were to be in Man U, how will the league be competitve?

  • tel says:

60m for bale is ridiculous hes had 1 good season. Watch his Price plummet as his next season will be average. Define what makes him 3rd best player in the World.

  • Jamiu says:

would be good seeing him doning the colours of my dear united…….but don’t think we would be able to fork out £80 unlike real madrid

  • Isaac levy says:

Rubbish report spurs are not interested in money levy said it many times . if you got nothing to write about try writing some fiction novel

    • Pug says:

Clubs are always interested in money. Levy said levy said, all we hear from spurs fans, fact is if united come knocking bale will want to go, and levy will let him.

      • My Heart Is White says:

I think you’re all getting worried, you won’t be bullying us into losing players again. You saw what happened to Modric and his dream move to Chelshit. Take note & fu(k off!

  • michael jaffa says:

the comments by manure fans now u know why they r hated so much arrogant twats. how many points did they get off of spurs last season ? 1

    • billz says:

How many premier leagues you won? Hmmm your victory is beating us. We look at the bigger picture. So confident bale would stay. But yku think bale would turn down man u and the champs league? Get your head out of your ass

  • Mick61 says:

Bale is better than Ronaldo at this stage of his career and will only get better. So if Real Madrid say 85 million what make’s Man Utd think we sell for 60!!!!

  • Next bus to woolwich! says:

That’s the thing,we aren’t all glory hunters and run the club at huge debt, some football fans enjoy supporting their local club unlike most Man U fans, who sell their soul for the”dollar”.Poor souls, where’s your integrity!.

  • Terry yid says:

Pug (suitable name) Bale said he would like to play abroad one day. Sorry to smash your dreams but he will be staying at spurs this season before going abroad. You may have had a chance then fergie retired you got Moyes and your stock took a dive.

  • THFC- dave says:

    Moyes ha ha ya doomed

  • yid says:

They wont sell at any price THIS season at least, he ( bale) has agreed to stay, he is settled in London, his girlfriend wont want it all with a young kid, he is staying for now, look at the players we have signed!!!!! These man u hang ons ain’t got a clue, guna be a great season and I think it’s wide open
