Thiago AlcantaraThere’s been so much speculation surrounding Barcelona’s talented young Spaniard, Thiago Alcantara, that you may well begin to suspect that there’s something to these stories. The tabloids wouldn’t simply be making things up would they?

Heck, even David De Gea has been getting involved. Both De Gea and Alcantara are part of the same Spanish U21 side that has just become European Champions.

Indeed, it was Alcantara’s fantastic hat-trick that helped guide Spain to this position. After the game, De Gea told the hat-trick hero, ‘Nos vemos en Manchester’, or ‘See you in Manchester’. Does De Gea know something we don’t? (Source: The Mirror)

You can imagine that there’s been a fair amount of discussion in the Spanish dressing room about Alcantara’s future. It’s beginning to look as though his time at the Nou Camp is up. But could he really be on the way to Manchester United?

The Mirror claim that senior officials from United have met with the player’s management. Perhaps De Gea has caught onto this and this is what he’s referring to?

Regardless of the speculation, I do feel that Alcantara would be a good addition for Manchester United. He’s proven over the course of the U21 European Championships that he’s ready for regular game-time at a big club.

Despite his talent, I can’t see him getting that at Barcelona. Their midfield is just too packed out. When Cesc Fabregas can’t get game time, it’s not that surprising that an up-and-coming youngster like Thiago isn’t getting a proper look-in.

Yes, Alcantara made 36 appearances for Barca last year, but many of these were as a substitute. The fleet-footed forward shouldn’t bide his time any longer. He should go to a club that will give him the opportunity to blossom into a world-class star.

Manchester United is the ideal location. He’d get more game-time than he currently does at the Nou Camp, would provide David Moyes with a bit of flair and a spot of class and may end up being  something of a Premier League wild-card.

He can beat his man, he’s confident in front of goal and he’s capable of delivering a killer ball. All these qualities rolled together make him a real asset.

According to The Mail, Alcantara could be available for just £15m. That almost sounds too good to be true. If Moyes can pull off this signing, his Manchester United tenure will be off to a very good start indeed.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United be chasing this young Spanish talent?
