Henrikh MkhitaryanAt the moment, every single transfer rumour regarding Liverpool football club is being passed through the ‘Luis Suarez filter’. That’s to say, each story needs to be qualified by whether or not the potential transfer is dependent on the sale of the Reds’ Uruguayan troublemaker.

Last week, Suarez rocked the footballing world, upset Liverpool fans and gave the Press a field day when he announced that he was ready to leave the club. The Reds, of course, have been rock-steady in their response: he’s not for sale. But this hasn’t stopped the media from linking him to a move away from Anfield.

For now, that’s just what Liverpool fans will have to put up with. Luckily, there are still interesting players getting linked to the club.

Take, for instance, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, the Armenian International and spell-check magnet, who The Mirror claim that Liverpool will be moving for this summer, regardless of what Suarez does. At the very least, it’s a good sign that the Reds are still willing to splash out £20m on a single player.

After a couple of seasons of bad signings, you wouldn’t blame the top brass for shutting up shop and trying to make the best of a bad bunch. As it is, however, it looks like they’re trying to avoid complacency kicking in. In that regard, signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a good start.

It’s thought that Brendan Rodgers has been interested in Shaktar Donetsk’s attacking midfielder for some time now.

I wonder what caught his attention? Could it be that the three-time Armenian Player of the Year scored an incredible 25 goals in 39 games this season? That’s a conversion rate that most strikers would die for. Those kind of figures are reminiscent of Frank Lampard at the top of his game.

Of course, he’s playing his football in the Ukraine. The competition isn’t as strong as it might be. But there’s something about his energetic playing style, quick feet and excellent finishing ability that seems to suggest he’d be a good fit for the Premier League.

The Reds could certainly use somebody who is capable of scoring goals from the midfield. £20m is a lot of money, but if Mkhitaryan can add this to the squad, he’d make for an excellent investment. Heck, if Suarez stays too, Brendan Rodgers will have the makings of a strong squad.

What’s your take? Would Henrikh Mkhitaryan be a good signing for Liverpool?

I can’t imagin he’ll sign a flop lyk BORINI ”aka oponent defender” 4a club fightin 2get bak 2top 4 after labelin Kenny daglish ”HERO-7” a waistful spender. Nw he’s tinkin of ofloadin Downing, wat abt borini? He does’nt want 2hear d name Andy Carrr… Who scored xcelent goals in his first 6 mnths as a lfc player wat FB who did failed 2score goals. I dnt tink BR knows wat d fans really want.

I think geoff is a bit harsh.. if you look at the second half of the last season we were in the top 4 clubs in regards to points, goals scored and goals conceded. this is definatelty an improvement worth giving BR a further season. The team have played some Fnatastic football during the course of the season and if it were not for some indivdual errors (Against Man city on 2 occasions), and some outstanding performances by Goalkeepers our points tally would have been much better. I agree with you all that we do need some talent coming in and with the players were are being linked with namely ASpas, Alberto, Henrik it could be a good summer for LFC
By all accounts, it seems most of you want to get rid of downing, shelvey, Borini etc but by doing this would we not be depleting our squad further. I believe this has been our biggest problem and if we get rid of these players who would be the back up??. we need depth, I thinl it would be unwise to do these wholesale changes, remeber these guys you have mentioned are yongsters and BR will get the best out of them.. There was so mcuh talk last year about getting rid of Henderson as he had not performed, Would we ask this today?
I am totally Confident in BR approach Ithink he has learnt a lot, and that his signings will be verry astute

Personally not convinced by BR, he always seems to blame everything but his own tactics and selection when things go wrong..which they do quite a bit! He speaks how Liverpool have a mountain to climb before they can compete! Hang on a minute the previous season we could have won two cups and if Suarez had been firing like this season just gone and we hadn’t hit the woodwork a ridiculous amount of times we would have been competing for 4th! Someone needs to remind him he’s not manager of Swansea anymore!
Incidentally Brendan, hope you enjoyed your free season with no pressure from us fans! All I’ll say is your signings better be good and players gel this year or you’ll be looking for a new house to hang that big picture of yourself!..also I get the impression Mr Henry isn’t the most patient of owners so if you don’t get off to a good start watch that pressure ratchet up, good luck

Paolo you really don’t understand the game of football and Liverpools position prior to BR coming onboard. First up a manager will never criticize his own methods and course he will blame everything else that goes wrong as every manager does, otherwise they are writing their own death warrant! When BR came onboard – Yes liverpool did have a huge mountain to climb, not only in league positions with the other big four clubc, but financially as well due to the previous Bloody American owners running the club into huge amounts of Debt, which was highlighted as taking as much as 5 years to balance right. I too hope BR signings pay off but one thing I am happy with BR signings so far is that he sticks to an age and capped transfer sum, meaning the donkey decisions of 35M for 1 average player doesn’t happen again. This might change if he does sign HM for 22M but from I’ve seen, could be wise move. Lastly saying the teams hac got to Gel better, umm last season liverpool outplayed both the Manchester clubs and Arsenal on the pitch but low and behold horrible referee decisions and player mistakes cost us valuable points… But our passing game was outstanding just missing the end product. FSG bought the Boston Redsox and it took a few years to build and mold it into a World Series Championship team that is highly profitable and they will do the same with Liverpool, it takes time and they understand that.. Unlike the modern day Arab owned teams, who buys stars hoping they will gel into a great team, some short term success, but for how long is this financially viable and sustainable. BR this Liverpool supporter has your back! YNWA!!
