Should Arsenal seal the deal for this ‘London loving’ stopper?

Julio CesarIf you check the Papers, you’ll doubtless be aware that Arsenal are on the hunt for a new keeper.

After a slight mid-season blip, Wojciech Szczesny did seem to re-find his feet towards the end of the year. The much criticised Lukasz Fabianski also stood in pretty well when he was called upon. Seeing both players celebrate on the last day of the season, as the Gunners usurped Spurs to a Champions League spot, showed just how much they care about the club and their current roles.

So whilst a little part of me would be saddened to see one of those players get sidelined, I do recognise the need for a change up.

Wojciech is still young and his mistakes have proven costly. Wouldn’t it be something if the Gunners had somebody they could rely on between the sticks? We’ve all heard the claims that you ‘build a team from the back’, but has Wenger taken this advice on board?

Recent reports in Italy suggested that Arsenal had already agreed a deal for want-away keeper, Julio Cesar. It was claimed that a two-year deal had been signed, worth £4m per season. Yet, his agent, Josias Cardoso moved quickly to deny these rumours.

But as the Daily Mail suggests, there does seem to be something to this story. The Gunners have been linked to Cesar for a number of months now and the player himself has left a couple of cryptic clues about his future. Check out these recent comments from the Brazilian keeper:

“I want to stay in England. I am enjoying London and I love the Premier League.”

With all the speculation regarding his future, could his comments about London be a suggestion that he’s on his way to Arsenal?

If this is to be his final destination, I think it would be a good move for both parties. After all, Cesar will be given a (small) chance of winning silverware and Arsenal will receive a keeper that they can rely on.

He’s too good for QPR and will be desperate to prove himself at a top club once again. There’s no word yet on how much he could cost, but if Arsene Wenger can negotiate a fair price, this could be a big step forward for the club.

What’s your take? Is Julio Cesar on his way to the Emirates this summer?
