Have Arsenal already agreed their first summer transfer?

David VillaSince January, Arsenal have been strongly linked to Barcelona forward David Villa. If any move where to go through, I’m not sure how much excitement it would create among fans.

Don’t get me wrong, Villa is a fantastic player and a natural goal-scorer. He’s Spain’s all-time top scorer and that, in many ways, speaks for itself.

But he’s 31-years-old. He’s injury prone. His next move will probably be the last major contract he will sign. He will provide his new club with no re-sell value. For all the positives, there are a number of negatives that take the sheen off of any potential move for Villa.

Still there’s been enough speculation surrounding Villa and Arsenal to suggest that there’s something to these stories. Could the Spanish forward be on his way to the Emirates?

According to Spanish pundit Axel Torres, Villa has already agreed ‘pre-contract’ terms with David Villa. Here’s what Torres had to say:

I’ve been told he’s showed a pre-contract with Arsenal to the board of Barcelona. He’s showed he had an agreement with Arsenal, but it’s not the final agreement. He showed it to the board of Barcelona to put pressure on them and he wants to go to England.

He doesn’t want to be a Barcelona player. He has no good relations with some of the important players in the squad and he knows he has to play if he wants to be in the starting line-up for Spain at the World Cup next year.” (Source: TalkSPORT)

What does all this mean? In essence, the Gunners have agreed personal terms with Villa, who is using the deal to try and force his move away from Barcelona.

If these claims are true, it also means that Arsene Wenger has taken a more short-term approach to his transfers. With his Arsenal contract up next season, perhaps his interest in young stars is dwindling. Perhaps he’s looking at players who can come in and make an immediate impact.

Arsenal fans will hope that Villa arrives alongside a couple of other signings and that these new additions help to lead the club towards success next season.

In and of itself, it’s not the most exciting move. If it’s part of a transfer blitz, however, it could be the start of something very exciting indeed.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners really be pursuing this Spanish forward? Can Villa force his move to the Emirates?

  • sonko says:

Yes is god pleya if wenga sinig good

  • Dave says:

Yes Villa is a natural goal scorer but not a wise or intresting signing for Arsenal. We need proven, younger, injury free quality signings if we are to make a real statement as viable contenders for silverware. Higuain, Benteke, Ronney, now that is intresting. We’re tired of “I almost signed …”!!!

  • islander says:

Don’t put blame on Arsene it’s the Board that are not serious. £70m is not enough to buy the right players.
Pls invest & put shame on Mourinho.

  • sammi says:

  • nwabumma says:

sign players, and stop playing game of mind.

  • Moses Watasa says:

If it were indeed true that Wenga has indeed signed David Villa, why don’t Arsenal just unveil him? It is the same old story here – Wenga “signing” players – but with his mouth only!! Remember, recently the little man was ranting and hallucinating that he had “signed” Lionel Messi! What fans should expect are More Arshavins, Bendtners, Denilsons, Park Chu Young, Diaby etc – NOT David Villa!

  • robinson says:

Wenger has to move quickly in signing two
good players among whom Rooney and Jovetic should be the names…yes. We sleep on this transfer window, we lose the title chase again next season.

  • robinson says:

Wenger is one of the best coaches in England and am confident he is paying cards well. Go AW go..get them

  • shockandawe says:

I dont care how old he is. He is a proven prolific goalscorer who can more than do a job for us for a couple of years. As long as he isnt the only signing I’d be more than happy to have a top international class striker to push us up the league. With Man City et al spending big we need to get some experience and quality in. He will do

  • fatai adebayo says:

Arsene wenger should pls sign a younge player not the likes of david villa cos is an injury prone player

  • david says:

we wish him well if he have agreed with the club

  • atek says:

henry was 30 plus when wenger took him back to play arsenal last two season. he was a lot better than most of arsenal players at that moment.
