Manchester United v City v Chelsea: Who will start next season the strongest?

Jose Mourinho ReturnsThe cloud that is the everlasting presence of Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, at the top of English football has drifted away. Rafael Benitez’s short, unwelcome, but successful stay at Stamford Bridge ended after just 6 months (as was intended).

Just a year after becoming the sixth manager in the Premier League era to win a title, Roberto Mancini was sacked by Manchester City. The successors of these three trophy-winning managers will be David Moyes, Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini. Which one will be victorious in the 2013/14 season?

The most plausible place to start is Old Trafford and with the Champions Manchester United. After 27 seasons ruling on his throne, Sir Alex Ferguson advocated. Sir Alex is probably the most influential person in the history of this famous football club. His replacement, David Moyes has never won a major trophy. Ferguson won 24. Despite never picking up silverware, Moyes did a sterling job with Everton leading them to many a top 6 finish with a hugely restricted budget.

A few acquisitions shall be made you would presume. Leighton Baines looks like he might follow his old gaffer Moyes out of Everton. The midfield will be a problematic area if Moyes doesn’t look to strengthen centrally. Thiago Alcantara and Marouane Fellaini are being heavily linked with United. A marquee signing such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or Robert Lewandowski would do fan’s confidence a world of good going into the start of next season.

United are currently favourites to retain their crown. But, Moyes will undergo a baptism of fire with games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool within the first five weeks of the season. Can they carry on the Ferguson legacy?

Now to their local rivals, Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini is relatively unknown but now faces a tough job, so, lets get to know him. He is a qualified civil engineer, his full name is Manuel Luis Pellegrini Ripamonti and he once managed a team named O’Higgins FC. See! You are practically his brother now.

What is common knowledge, though, is he is similar to his soon to be nemesis number one for Moyes, because neither have won a major trophy in a major European footballing Country. He also has no experience in English football. A risky appointment?

The City squad has had 2 new arrivals already in this unopened transfer window. Fernandinho and Jesus Navas have joined City for a combined total of approximately £50million. It seems almost certain that Isco of Malaga will join up with his old boss Pellegrini at the Etihad soon. Carlos Tevez and Edin Dzeko are looking for ways out though and this means City will need a replacement striker. Edison Cavani, perhaps?

He joined the “special one”, he rejoined the “happy one”, one thing is for sure, he will always be the “headline making one”. Jose Mourinho has returned to Chelsea but not with fireworks and a mass media frenzy, but with a calm, solemn, laid back interview. I wonder how long he’ll keep his cool for? My bet would be until August 17! Mourinho wears his heart on his sleeve. He is by far the most qualified of all three new title-challenging managers.

Chelsea have added one player so far this Summer, Andre Schurrle, the attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen. The Blues will have to find replacements for David Luiz and Juan Mata if they leave, but if not the main priority on the agenda for Mourinho will be buying a striker. Edison Cavani and Hulk top their shopping list.

Arsenal have the best opportunity they have had in years, because of Managers coming and Managers going. Unfortunately for Arsenal fans the Gunners simply won’t have the quality to challenge for the League.

The season will be enthralling as expected, the title race will be gripping as always and it will be edge of your seat stuff. For this will be a title race with a difference.

The difference is all three teams will start on a level playing field. United VS City VS Chelsea. Moyes VS Pellegrini VS Mourinho

Who do you think will win?
