Would this be £17m well spent by Arsenal?

Geoffrey KondogbiaWith so many players linked to Arsenal on a regular basis, the rumours that Arsene Wenger deems worthy to comment on, tend to be those most worth talking about.

This brings me to Geoffrey Kondogbia, a French star who is currently playing for cash-strapped La Liga side, Sevilla FC. He’s a defensive-minded footballer who was winning plaudits for his performances back in Ligue 1, when he played for Lens, but has received his best reviews yet since moving to Spain.

A 6 ft 2 inches tall, Kondogbia is an imposing figure who is more than capable of bullying other midfielders. He’s a powerful physical presence and somebody who is able to grab a game by the scruff of its neck and turn it in his favour. All this, and he’s only 20-years-old.

His young age and his nationality were sure to attract Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. And predictably, that seems to be the case.

The Sun have run with the headline, ‘Arsene’s top dog’ (get it?) and claim that Arsene Wenger has confirmed he wants to sign Kondogbia.

Strictly speaking, this isn’t really the case. Let’s take a look at Arsene’s quotes: “I don’t really want to talk about Kondogbia too much because everyone’s after him at the moment. When you ask ‘Are you also interested?’ what do you expect me to say?”

That’s not exactly definitive, but it does prove that he’s a player on Arsene’s radar. This is impressive in itself, given that The Sun have slapped a £17m price-tag onto the Frenchman and claimed that Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid are all interested. That’s some pretty big competition.

But Arsenal have the biggest need for a player like Kondogbia. Since selling Alex Song to Barcelona last summer, Arsenal’s midfield has lacked balance. Whilst it’s technically impressive, they don’t have a proper out-and-out holding midfielder who can control the play from in front of the back-four.

Kondogbia could be this man and personally, I’d love to see him protecting the likes of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla. But he’s so much more than a big bruiser. He’s a talented footballer and deserves an opportunity to prove this at a club like Arsenal. He’d cost a considerable amount of money, but may well be a decent investment.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Geoffrey Kondogbia play his football at the Emirates?

What we need is corner kick taker and a good header of the ball. I’ve seen game were we have taken 15 corners and 1 on target…. Norwich takes 1 corner and score. If this guy is good header and a good defensive midfielder…BRING HIM ON.
