Why Spurs NEED to win this transfer battle against Arsenal:

David VillaArsenal have been linked to Barcelona star David Villa for the best part of a year now. Wouldn’t it be something if North London rivals Tottenham were to swoop him and pluck him up this summer?

Whilst the rivalry is more interesting on the pitch, I do think competition between the two clubs in the transfer market could be about to get more feisty.

As Tottenham continue to improve on a season-by-season basis, they’ll start to attract bigger and better players. Who’s to say that White Hart Lane wont hold more allure than the Emirates over the course of the next couple of seasons?

The battle for David Villa could be the start of it.

According to Spanish radio station, Cadena Ser (via fanatix), Spurs have now moved ahead of Arsenal and established themselves as favourites to sign the super Spanish forward.

They claim that Villa has already spoken to Andre Villas-Boas and is now convinced that The Lane is the right place for him.

Naturally, we can’t speak to the validity of these claims, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Barcelona were considering selling Villa this summer.

He may be Spain’s top striker, but he’s also 31-years-old. In footballing terms, this means that his best years are likely behind him. He’s also a player who suffered a serious long-term injury last year. This, combined with his age, has put a question mark over his future.

And Barcelona are not an easy club at which to re-build your career. If you’re not in form, somebody else will take your place and there’s a good chance that somebody has the ability to keep you out of the team.

Still, it’s not all doom and gloom for Villa. He has made 37 appearances this season, scored 15 goals and made 4 assists. That’s not bad for a player who is supposed to be re-finding his feet.

The truth is, however, Villa is a natural goal-scorer. His record speaks for itself. Age will not diminish this ability.

And it’s for that reason that Spurs should battle Arsenal for his signature. AVB desperately needs to add a goal-scoring centre forward to his ranks and Villa certainly fits the billing.

Besides, signing Villa would give Spurs some serious bragging rights over Arsenal. And who doesn’t want that?

What’s your take? Should Tottenham snap up David Villa, or look for somebody younger?

Why Arsenal don’t even care,Villa had he’s chance and now Arsenal have bigger targets.

Two reasons why Tottenham won’t be more attractive place than Arsenal for world class players to be ; No CL football and Bale leaving for a bigger club soon. Sorry Tottenham! You had your best chances last and this year to overtake Arsenal , who lost their best players three years running.

isnt that what gooner scum fans said last summer? I remember the days when arsenal fans expected the title. U can say whatever u want but arsenal are in decline….spurs will be ahead next year make no mistake about that

We say that every Summer and every summer we are proved right.
The irony of you lot saying the same thing and failing is lost on you?
We are primed here for a major onslaught on the transfer market – the figures don’t lie and spurs are about 50M a year short on wages, and around 10 players short of a proper European squad.
Our worst period in years and still you couldn’t take advantage!
And your make no mistake comment – you make that mistake every single year.
Miles and miles away from a top club. In terms of wages, stadium, revenue, history, squad….
Unless your owner wants to spend like city or Chelsea, you lot should be very pleased to be the best of the rest.
Though I think this was your last chance to do it, as Liverpool might give you a run next season for 5th place. Without bale, you have no chance at all.
Enjoy the Europa league, and well done for getting into it with that terrible one man squad.

I see no benefits gained by Spurs in competing against Arsenal in the transfer market. The bottom line is that we (Spurs) need to raise our standard of play to compete against the likes of both Arsenal & Chelsea. Year in & year out we find ourselves in the identical position by not winning any silverware nor qualifying for the CL. The prime reason being inconsistency. Get Rose & Townsend back for the new season & start developing the squad which need to improve to compete decisively in the PL.

  • Larsporsenna says:

Don’t know that he would be a good buy for either team. Yes he’s a great player, but the Premiership is very demanding physically and he is the wrong side of 30. Look what happened whe Shevchenko joined Chelsea, and he was only 29.

as much as I like David Villa that is not the way forward – and allegedly this was one of the reasons Levy/Redknapp fell out.
Harry wanted a team of superstars whatever their age, Levy wants to buy younger players with potential future value. Villa might give short term benefits and sell a few shirts, but if we are to continue the upward spiral we need to focus on much younger players.
The Ar5e tried this approach and failed largely because they didn’t sign their players up long term, and they have now started signing cast offs like Podolski and Cazorla who never made it at bigger clubs. It seems Mr Levy is pretty sharp on the Contract point so I think we should persist with this approach – who is playing in the Final of the U21’s tonight??

We ARE THE ARSENAL Totts can buy Pele,Maradona,Messi and still finishing looking at our ARSES.

  • wez says:

  • dom says:
