Burak YilmazWhilst Liverpool have had a disappointing season in general, there are signs, meager glimpses of a decent side being built at Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers, for all the laughable interviews and quotes, seems to have his head screwed on when it comes to the transfer market. Yes, he signed Joe Allen, but who could have predicted that the Welsh ace would flop so hard in his first season at a big club?

He also signed Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, both of whom have made an impact since joining Liverpool. Sturridge adds pace and craft to the Reds’ attack and Coutinho has a bag of tricks and is capable of unlocking tight defenses.

But there’s plenty more work to be done if Liverpool are to launch a concerted title effort next season. It will take two-or-three world-class talents moving to Anfield to even give Brendan Rodgers’ boys a chance.

And if Liverpool are going to spend in this transfer market, they’ll need to start by bringing in another striker. If Brendan could chose from more than just Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, the Reds would have more options, flexibility and energy going forward.

Manchester United are proof that buying an in-form striker can have a positive impact on the course of your season.

This brings me to The Daily Express‘ claim that Liverpool are on the hunt for Burak Yilmaz, but that they’ll have to fight off Arsenal, Napoli and Atletico Madrid to secure his signature.

The Galatasaray sensation has been in smashing form in front of goal this season. He’s the third highest scorer in this season’s Champions League (behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski) having tucked away eight goals in nine games.

In total, he has made 37 appearances and scored 30 goals this season. That’s an extremely impressive conversion rate. It’s little wonder that top clubs from across Europe are starting to circle around Galatasaray.

His rise to prominence this season (though admittedly, he proved that he as a good finisher at ex-club Trabzonspor) is sure to increase his price-tag. Liverpool don’t have a lot of money to spend and could end up getting bullied by Arsenal (and Napoli should they sell Edinson Cavani this summer).

But Yilmaz is worth pursuing. I’d place him in a similar league to Robert Lewandowski – he just doesn’t have the same high profile. If Liverpool could pull this one off, they’d come back much stronger next season.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Burak Yilmaz at Anfield?
