Which of these three TOP strikers should Spurs swoop for?

Christian BentekeAn article recently appeared in The Daily Mail suggesting that Spurs have already made a bid for RNK Split’s striker, Ante Rebic.

But the bigger news was hidden later in the article. The Mail also claimed that Spurs were ready to move for David Villa, Christian Benteke or Leandro Damiao should Emmanuel Adebayor move on this summer.

That’s a fairly impressive list of candidates. It’s almost enough to convince me that Adebayor needs to be forcefully led to the White Hart Lane exit door.

As for Rebic, he’s a 19-year-old forward, who has attracted a lot of attention this season with his powerful displays. The fact that he’s grabbed 10 goals in 27 games has helped too.

Tottenham’s interest may be genuine, but it’s unlikely to conjure much excitement among fans.

It’s about time Spurs invested in some proper attacking talent. The expectation is that a big name is brought in this summer, not somebody we’ve never heard of before. Benteke, Villa and Damiao fit this role, Rebic doesn’t (not yet any way).

My hope is that Andre Villas-Boas moves for one of these strikers, regardless of what happens with Emmanuel Adebayor. If this season has proved anything, it’s that Spurs can’t rely on the Togo forward to come up with the goods on a regular basis. The same is true for Jermaine Defoe. Further reinforcements must be brought in.

Out of the three players previously mentioned, Benteke and Damiao seem to be the best options.

Barcelona’s David Villa is a top player and one of the best out-and-out goalscorers to have graced the game. But he’s also 31-years-old and only recently came back from a horrific leg-break. He’s still got the goods, but the clock is ticking on his career.

But this big Belgium bruiser and the fleet-footed Brazilian both have their entire careers stretching out before them.

With Didier Drogba gone, Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke is now the Premier League’s most powerful forward. Defenders just seem to bounce off of him and this, combined with his strong running and finishing ability makes him a genuine threat.

Leandro Damiao, on the other hand, is more of a flair player. He has remarkable technical ability, quick feet and a bag of tricks to draw from. He also tends to end up on the score-sheet on a regular basis.

It’s hard to choose between the two, but if it came down to it, I’d pick Benteke. The Belgium forward is proven in the Premier League and I’d love to see what he could do at a big club.

If both Benteke and Ante Rebic join this summer, Spurs will have the makings of a decent forward line.

What’s your take? Which striker should Spurs snap up?

get up to date before writing such articles. AVB has stated that he had never heard of Ante Rebic – he said “”Rebic? I have no idea who this player is, I’m sorry. I don’t know where this news has come form, not out of disrespect to the player but he’s not someone I’m looking at.”

Here’s the one reason I’d think about signing David Silva if the price is right. Along with some reliable goal scoring, he brings experience winning at the highest level, which nobody else on the squad has. Teams have to learn how to win, and Spurs haven’t yet. Silva’s experience could be invaluable on a young team that’s still figuring out how to be as good as their talent.

I wouldn’t pay a lot for him, but I’d think about paying for him.

Benteke`s the most recent case of a young foreign striker having a great year (mostly at home) and then his price tag getting enormous so the mid-table team who bought him can make a tidy profit. Avoid like the plague. Sign Damiao, he`s the straight up goods. And then sign Contrao to replace the constantly lost Ekotto AKA the man under the bush).

If it was my choice of who our strikers would be next season I would keep Defoe, sell Ade & sign Soldado & Benteke. The Damaio saga has gone on too long – AVB seems to like him but the deal seems to be too complicated.

If Chelsea are prepared to let him go I would prefer Lukaku over Benteke. Ideally both plus keep on JD as he is more mobile should we need that in any game.

Sorry??????/ see what Benteke can do at a big club? Villa are the fifth most successful English club ever. Ok Spuds have had the best of the last two seasons but get real!

  • Godzilla says:

You can’t afford Benteke and when did you lot become a big club? Two finishes in the top half of the league do not make you a big club!! Granted you’ve shown some decent form this season but you know what they say about form….. I wonder how Bale will do at a big club when he moves on?
