Should Arsenal make a move for this Dutch ace?

Michel VormLast season, you could have argued that Michel Vorm was the Premier League’s best keeper. The Swansea City stopper was a big part of a team who excelled in their first season in the top flight of English football.

That’s why he and the likes of Newcastle’s Tim Krul earned inflated price-tags and links to bigger clubs. When you’re a goal-keeper, one good season is often enough to set you up for the big-time.

This season, however, Tim Krul’s form has dipped and Vorm hasn’t looked quite the same.

This makes me wonder about this season’s best rated keepers. Are the likes of Asmir Begovic and Simon Mignolet really ready to make the step up?

We may soon know the answer to this question. According to The Metro, the Swans’ keeper is: “‘positive’ about Arsenal transfer talk’. How did they land upon this headline? When Vorm was asked about the speculation surrounding his future, he responded:

“Obviously you never know what can happen in football, but I see myself playing here next season. It is all speculation, but in some ways it is positive because it means people look at you as someone who is doing well.”

That takes a bit of shifting to mould into something that suggests Vorm is willing to move to Arsenal. He’s simply suggesting that the speculation reflects well on him and on the job he’s doing for his current club. Still, he doesn’t exactly rule out a move to another club.

It would surprise nobody if Arsenal did sign a keeper this summer. Wojciech Szczesny’s mentality is in pieces, Lukasz Fabianski is inconsistent and Vito Mannone is… Vito Mannone. The Gunners need to bring somebody in with a bit of experience, who can provide Szczesny with some real competition.

In this regard, signing Michel Vorm would probably be a good move for the club. The Dutchman’s price-tag will have shrunk a little this season, but there’s still plenty of evidence to suggest he’s a good keeper.

He’s extremely agile, patrols his area well and is an excellent shot-stopper. He’s a good all-round keeper who would be able to pump more confidence into Arsenal’s defense. Anybody has to be better in this regard than the hapless Fabianski.

If he’s available at a fair price, Arsenal should go for it.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal make a move for Michel Vorm?

I think julio cesar is a betta shot stopper. I say we go for cesar. Vorm is good but rytli sed in yur article he is inconsistent and dats not competition rili. Cus inconsistency is what has put arsenal where we are now. I say julio cesar.

Let Wenger try to get Vorm or seek for an experience stopper to provide a competition for Wojciech

Both Begovic and Mignolet have built their reputations slowly over a few years. I don’t think either has been outstanding this season compared to their usual level, which is fairly outstanding. Vorm and Krul gained extra notoriety because it was their first seasons in the PL, and they did very well, but it’s different doing it one season and doing it consistently for a few. (That being said I don’t think either has been THAT bad this year)

I think any of the 4 keepers above would be a good choice though the fees will vary by quite a bit yet I don’t think there is much between them keeper wise, and I’m speaking as a Newcastle fan.

you could have Elliot for nothing mind.
