Should Arsenal look to pull off this ‘shock’ transfer?

Cesc Fabregas has courted Barcelona for the last couple of seasons. Is the time right him to make a move? When Cesc Fabregas left the Emirates to join his boyhood club, Barcelona, Arsenal fans thought that was the last they’d see of the Spanish ace. But, if all the stories emanating from the papers are true, a 25-year-old Fabregas could be about to make a shock move back to the Premier League, with Arsenal favourites to secure his signature.

The Daily Star even claims that sources in Spain suggest that Arsenal have the first option, should Cesc leave the Nou Camp.

Unfortunately, the validity of their story is somewhat challenged by their claim that ‘Fabregas has had a poor season’. This doesn’t suggest they have a proper measure on the situation.

After all, how can somebody who has been an integral part of a La Liga winning side be deemed to have  had a poor season? Yes, he’s by no means a nailed-on starter at Barcelona, but with competition like Xavi, Iniesta and co, this is no real surprise.

Still, Cesc Fabregas has the benefit of youth. If he hangs tough, there’s certainly a regular first team role available for him in the coming seasons. He certainly has the talent to hold down a place, if given the opportunity.

Yes, Fabregas was part of the Barca side that lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich (in the second leg), but that result may well prove to be an anomaly in his career. Barcelona are going through a rough spell and Bayern are ascendant at the moment.

Suffice to say, I don’t buy into the myth that’s currently forming around Fabregas. He hasn’t fallen from grace and he certainly hasn’t had a stinker of a season.

The Star uses this quote from Barca chairman, Sandro Rosell, to suggest that the Spanish midfielder may move on in the summer: “We need changes in our squad but those will not come until the end of the season.”

This isn’t exactly definitive, but if somebody offered enough money, I’m sure they’d consider the move.

Whilst Arsenal may be strong in the centre-of-the-park, Cesc Fabregas would provide them with considerably more threat going forward. He’s one of the best passers in world football and the kind of player who can build a team around. The thought of him playing alongside Jack Wilshere is enough to get the adrenaline pumping.

Of course, Arsenal would have to smash their transfer record, but he’d be worth it.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners make a move for this ex-star?

well if he want a u-turn he can do so but wenger should actually look for better strikers like lewandowski, cavani, isco, jovetic rather than cesc. I don’t mean he is bad,he is good.

in barca’s case, its be careful what you wish for……. even henry failed to light the camp nou when he went. Weather its their level of expectation or what i dont know, but their “big” signings have seldom worked out lately especially when it comes to poaching our players. Lets look at who made the move from us to them over recent years. Who at best divided barca fans: Fab, song, Hleb even Henry (how much did he cost per game?!) so did overmars. The fact is very few arsenal players to have the switched from arsenal to barca have managed to impress in the way what was hoped and expected.
I for one think fab has done alright for himself since he went there. sure he has had some lousy games but perennial subs normaly do.
The problem is, with barca first being humbled by madrid in la liga last season and their failure in this seasons champions league. someone, along with others will take the blame. and their alot less likley to point the finge at someone they would consider “their own” i.e Messi, xavi, valdes, iniesta and pedro (all this proves is the fact that they dont see fab as one of their own.).
Tito i think this season (given his ill health earlier) will escape the criticism. for now! next season could well will be a different story.
Where does all this leave fab? like he said. only he knows his future, but i wager barca having a pretty big say in the matter! personally i would like to see him come back but i fear he may be italy bound next summer. It all depends if wenger is still in charge this time next year. Not for the obvious reason. I think we would stand more of a chance seeing him in our colours if wenger isnt still here…. Why? Well wenger will more than likely: A) bulk at the price. (We may have first refusal but it will still be 30 mill+) and B) he will say it will stifle the likes of ramsey, wiltshere and others. you could be sure too, that the glass statue that goes by the name diaby wont be far from his thoughts.
However for any new manager coming in its an obvious purchase. With the club/fans desperate for a “BIG” signing, Fabs history with the club, and a manger eager to prove himself to the fans. The whole thing just starts to make more and more sense.
Anyway all that is just if’s, maybe’s and a whole lot of I’m board and need something to do. Holidays are boring!

No need need of fab we have wilshere, rosicky, carzola and more like eisfeld who are good only for arsenal to bring back its glory days we need; a) agood keeper ( b) central defender (c) rightback (d) defensive midfield (e) a striker. Then change of the board for more ambitious personnel and we say champions next season!
