Stevan JoveticWith Arsenal busily scrapping it out for a fourth place finish, the most exciting club-related news seems to be revolving around the transfer market.

After all, this is a position that the Gunners have been in all too often over the last half-decade or so. Fighting with the likes of Spurs and Liverpool for a place in the Champions League has become an all-too-common occurrence for Arsene Wenger’s side.

But it may not always be this way. Though Arsenal have had a poor season footbally speaking, they’ve done pretty well financially. This includes signing a fantastic new commercial deal, one that’s sure to pump funds into Wenger’s rumoured ‘transfer war-chest’.

As a result, Arsenal have money to spend. Should Arsene Wenger spend it wisely, he may end up in a position to challenge for silverware next season. Now that’d make a nice change.

This makes Goal.com‘s claims that Arsenal are looking to secure two marquee signings this summer rather intriguing. This, I’m sure, would be almost too much for Arsenal fans to bear. After all, they’re used to Arsene Wenger spending as little as possible.

The first marquee signing is rumoured to be long-term Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic. The Montenegrin ace is one of the most crafty strikers in the European game. He has the quick feet of Luis Suarez, along with pace and finishing ability. He’d be an excellent addition to this Arsenal side.

Goal.com say that Arsenal will open the bidding at £17m, whilst Jovetic’s club, Fiorentina, will hold out for £25-30m. Let’s hope Arsenal get their way.

As for the second marquee signing, the same source has lined up Eden Dzeko and Robert Lewandowski as potential candidates. I know which one I’d prefer.

Whilst Edin Dzeko is a quality player, who has scored some important goals this season, Lewandowski is on an entirely different level.

Anybody who watched the deadly Polish forward take apart Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final, can attest to his ability.

He’d be a massive step-up on the likes of Olivier Giroud.

If there’s any truth to these claims, then it’s exciting to see Arsene already lining up big summer moves. Should these deals be secured, the club will be in an extremely strong position come next summer.

What’s your take? Could Stevan Jovetic and Robert Lewandowski put Arsenal in contention for the title?

What absolute crap. Sites have us signing everybody and their dog. Only signing that seems realistic is Jovetic. Lewandowski is out of our league and is either Man U or proprably Bayern.
Do you really think Wenger is going to spend this supposed 70 mil war chest. He is already looking at a release clause of 6mil for Loic Remy. Its such a shame that we are so close but so far because of Wengers lack of willingness to spend.
I love the fact of our financial independance. But could we win something anytime soon.
Look at Wigans easy path to FA cup final, that could have been ours. Avoid the big clubs and make a final. But no our manager put out a team to beat, who! Blackburn. So how did that work out for you Arsene!
