Is this £13m La Liga ace the answer to Tottenham’s goal-scoring woes?

David VillaWhilst it’s harsh to label Tottenham a one-man team, Andre Villas-Boas has had his hide saved on more than one occasion by his Welsh wizard Gareth Bale.

Bale couldn’t have picked a better season to start delivering on his promise. Whilst he’s been banging in goals left, right and centre, Tottenham’s forwards have been struggling to make an impression.

Jermaine Defoe started the season strongly, but has offered diminishing returns ever since. The opposite is true of Emmanuel Adebayor, who has been anonymous for most of the season, only to turn on the style during the last games of the year.

Beyond these two and perhaps Clint Dempsey, Spurs don’t have many other options. This lack of firepower has held them back.

Bale can’t always be relied upon to produce the goods. He may not remain at White Hart Lane for too much longer if he’s not surrounded by better players who can take the burden off of him. It’s time for others to step up and share the load.

This may involve AVB dipping into the transfer market and plucking up a top-quality striker. But who should they be looking at?

According to The Mirror, Tottenham have ‘dramatically’ entered the race to sign Barcelona forward David Villa. This, I think, should get most Spurs fans excited.

Let’s get the whole age thing out of the way: Villa is now 31-years-old. He has had injury problems over the last couple of seasons. He’s no spring-chicken. In this sense, he’s not an ideal long-term solution to Spurs’ lack of cut-and-thrust.

But he’s an excellent short-term one. I can’t think of any other player with Villa’s current price-tag, who offers a similar level of goal-threat.

Despite only making 37 appearances this season (many of which were as a substitute), old man Villa has managed to find the back of the net 15 times. This is an excellent return for a player who has faced a considerable amount of time on the bench this year.

Tottenham need somebody with his level of confidence in front of goal. The likes of Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale can do all the running. Villa just needs to be in the right place at the right time to steer the ball home.

The Mirror claim that Barca want £13m for Villa, whilst Tottenham value him at £8m. If the two clubs can meet in the middle, it would probably represent a decent deal for everybody involved.

What’s your take? Would you like to see David Villa at White Hart Lane?

Whilst we’re at it why not get Teddy out of retirement, maybe Klinsmann will do another stint! Come on here we are a team that needs to look forward. I don’t think that Levy & Co would buy Soldado at £20mill and he is 4 years younger! If the Villa rumours ever turned out to be true and he is in a Spurs shirt next season (it best be a deal under £5million, thats all I can say).

Tottaly agree with you, and I’m convinced that we are not going to buy such players as Soldado, Negredo, or Villa.
If Levy and Lewis want to make money, then first they should add quality players who would garantee us a Chamipions League place. And the best solution would be bringing Marco Reus, of course he would cost a lot (about £30mil), but he is just 23, and in EPL his price would double the money in few years. He’s just like Bale, and playing them together in front of attack would be amazing. I’m sure that with him, we would be able even to win the EPL next season. Bale was outstanding this season, and just think what would happen if will have 2 of Bale.

LEVY YOU MUST PUT ALL THE CASH ON REUS, AND DON’T BUY ANYONE ELSE.
1 ADDITION WOULD BE ENOUGH FOR US TO EPL.
