Could Manchester United be about to secure a sensational £15m bargain?

Despite having run away with the Premier League this season, Manchester United haven’t offered a lot of craft or endeavour down the wings.

Antonio Valencia was United’s MVP last season, but appears to have lost his touch. Last year he had the confidence to take people on and when he was in position, he was more than capable of firing in deadly crosses and creating havoc. This year, he’s looked a little nervy and his passing doesn’t seem to have the same zip and fizz.

Then there’s Ashley Young, who has proven to be completely ineffective and Nani, the talented Portuguese winger, whose future appears to lie elsewhere.

With Ryan Giggs growing older and older, it doesn’t surprise me that Fergie has already snapped up Wilfried Zaha.

But hopefully his spending wont stop there. Manchester United need to bolster this area to ensure that they come back even stronger next year.

Which brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Real Madrid have offered United Angel Di Maria for a bargain price. The Argentinian ace has seen his form drop off this season and he’s thought to be one of the players leading Madrid’s summer clear-out. Let’s hope somebody finds him a nice home!

It’s claimed that the 25-year-old would cost United just £15m. That’s a good price for a player with so much experience at the top level. It’s also worth noting that he’s an extremely effective player. In 2010-11, he scored 9 goals and grabbed 20 assists. In 2011-112, he scored 7 goals and 16 assists. This season, he has scored 8 times and picked up 16 assists. And yet most sources claim that he’s had an off season.

I wonder what he’d be capable of should he find his feet once more.

It’s easy to see how he has earned the nickname, ‘the Assist King’. Given United’s situation, I’d argue that they could use a player of his ingenuity.

I find it difficult to believe that somebody who is still so useful to Real Madrid, could be let go for just £15m. I’m not sure who they could get in to replace him? There aren’t that many wingers in European football who provide the goods on Angel Di Maria’s level.

But, if Manchester United really could snap him up for just £15m, they’d be crazy to miss out on the opportunity. He could be just the man they need.
