Jose CallejonIt’s difficult to quantify exactly how important Gareth Bale has been to Spurs this season. Whilst the accusations that Tottenham are a one man team are a little unfair, their Welsh wizard has been their main driving force.

Whilst Spurs are a solid team, Bale provides them with an edge. His goals and build-up play are the reason they remain in such strong contention for a top four finish next season.

And should Tottenham secure Champions League football, there’s no telling just what kind of talent they’ll be able to attract. But will these newbies be playing alongside Bale, or is the Welshman set to flee the coup?

According to The Mirror, Real Madrid (the club who has probably had the strongest links to Bale over the last year or so) are looking to organise a swap deal that will see one of their players move to White Hart Lane, with Bale heading in the other direction.

The Madrid player in question is talented winger, Jose Callejon who is being offered to Tottenham for £8m. But there’s a catch, if Real do sell Tottenham Callejon for a cut-price, they’ll expect AVB to remember this when they come knocking for Bale at a later date.

This has all the makings of a faustian pact. But should Tottenham sign away the soul of their team?

Callejon is a player I’m a big admirer of. He has bags of talent, confidence and awareness of who’s around him. But the truth is, the 26-year-old is not a youngster anymore. The years are ticking by and he needs to find some regular football to keep his career trajectory on an upward course.

He’s been getting more game time recently, but still doesn’t merit a starting position in ‘big’ games. Tottenham may be able to offer this and at £8m, he wouldn’t break the bank. With regular games, he may just kick on and establish himself as a world-class player.

But the deal isn’t worth making if it requires offering Bale at a later date. The two players cannot be compared. Bale at 23-years-old is already twice the player Callejon is. He’s also got a significantly higher price-tag.

With that in mind, Tottenham should play the long-game and keep hold of Bale until they’ve got no choice but to sell him to the highest bigger. When this moment arrives, they’ve likely be able to afford 3-4 Jose Callejon’s.

What’s your take? Would you like to see this Real Madrid star at Tottenham?

Callejon ? Dont make me laugh. What are Real Madrid the mafia or something? What ,are they putting their arm around us and asking for protection money? Higuian and £35million or £50 million and a freshly made wok full of piela. piss off!

Spurs should go for Tello of Barcelona, as a replacement for Bale.

I wouldnt even consider a swap Ronaldo for Bale let alone Callejon pmsl. We need to keep him at all costs and then buy the players to support the team. Baines would be a great coup if we could take him from the Toffees and two decent strikers from a whole host of names being banded about.
