Why sacking Stewart Regan could save Scottish football:

Stewart ReganScotland is the first European country to exit from the Brazil 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Two points from a possible eighteen is a dismal record, yet there is no one in the press willing to question the stewardship of Stewart Regan. The silence also from Regan is beyond belief. Scottish football is walking blindfolded into oblivion and the head of the SFA has remained mute.

Football is the national sport in Scotland. So we have to ask ourselves why we lag behind countries such as Wales and the Republic of Ireland where football is not the first choice for sports fans.

With Scottish football so divided, it is difficult to see a way forward for the national side. We have a media that has a yellow streak running down its back and is terrified to report the facts that Scottish Football is corrupt from top to bottom, for fear of falling foul of those behind the throne. Only time will tell if the media in this country has the guts to regain its independence.

A start to the recovery would be to show Stewart Regan the door. He has brought nothing to the national game and has allowed the decline of the game in this country to continue without any attempt to halt the slide.

His insulting tweet that Rangers captain Lee McCulloch should be hanged should have been the end of the line for the SFA supremo, yet still we have mismanagement of the game on an industrial scale. In time, when people reflect on the happenings of the game in Scotland over the Regan years we will wonder how he ever got so far. No one in Scotland believes that Regan is his own man.

Gordon Strachan now has a huge job on his hands. His choice of Mark McGhee as assistant sends a shiver down the back of ever football fan. How McGhee is allowed anywhere near a football team is beyond me, he has been a failure at ever job he has had, but Strachan must be given the chance to reverse the decline in the national set up.

If the Scottish footballing public – and I include the Tartan Army in this – really have the best interests of the game at heart then they must put their petty bias behind them and voice their concerns now and have Stewart Regan sacked; for tomorrow it will be too late.
