Younes BelhandaWhilst Aaron Ramsey has recieved something of a critical reappraisal over the last month or so, I’m not entirely sure I buy into claims that he is a ‘player reborn’.

The Welshman has struggled to make a full come-back following a career threatening injury and often looks sluggish and careless. I’ll admit, he’s started moving the ball about quicker (though he didn’t against Fulham last week, where Arsenal struggled) and that he doesn’t dawdle quite so much, but this doesn’t compensate for his faults.

Ramsey just doesn’t contribute enough to the side. Even with a regular run of games, he’s not accruing any kind of goal tally, or collecting any assists. I realise he’s playing deeper than the likes of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere, but still – there needs to be some kind of tangible return on his exertions if he’s to hold his place down in the Arsenal midfield.

But he’s not the only Arsenal midfielder I want to pick on. There’s Tomas Rosicky, who tends to get fans excited one month, only to disappoint the next. His injury record isn’t pretty and the fact that he can never put together a run of games should have put an end to his Arsenal career some time ago.

Finally, there’s Abou Diaby, who recently picked up an injury that would see him out of the game for nine months. The fact that absolutely nobody was surprised by this tells its own story. He can’t be relied on and with this in mind, Arsenal should start looking elsewhere.

Beyond this trio, Arsenal’s midfield is fairly strong. The likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta are three of the most technically gifted players in the Premier League. What’s needed is a super-sub who can come on and change games, or fill in when injuries demand it.

This brings me to Younes Belhanda, a player who has been courting links with Arsenal for quite some time. I think he’s the perfect man for the job. And as The Express notes, he’s been given a ‘green light’ for a Premier League move.

He plays for Montpellier, whose owner, Louis Nicollin recently told the Press: ‘The door is open for Younes to find a bigger club. I don’t know where yet, but he wants to leave. It’ll take 10-11 million (euros) though.’

That’s approximately £9m, a fair price for a man of his talent. The young French star has what it takes to make it at Arsenal, which is more than Ramsey, Rosicky and Diaby can say.

What’s your take? Do Arsenal need further midfield recruits? Is Younes Belhanda the right fit?

no need to buy in the midfield. I think Arsenal should promote the very exciting and talented Eisfeld, alongwith Aneke.

I think Rosicky is a very good player all he need is more playing time , which he is not given. He can control and pass the ball. Very accurate and has the skills needed.

I think we could sign maybe 6 players this year and lose sagna I think we will replace him with corchia or Richards sign a new gk I personally think Adler or Valdes only cos Valdes will be cheap. Ambroietta instead of Williams then this is where the rumours get silly I would love to believe all the hype of us sniffing round cesc again but he is half of our transfer kitty so he won’t buy him unless tv5 goes the other way. Jovetic is allready done and hopefully a exciting lw like draxler but knowing us he will sign some unknown talents
