Where next for Jose Mourinho?

|

Apart from that, the only thing that can keep Jose from joining Chelsea is the lure of Manchester United. Mourinho is desperate to replace SAF when he retires, and believes another Chelsea adventure will damage his chances of fulfilling his ambition. Mourinho has been a long time admirer of the Scot and the way he manages the club.  Although he is hated by some sections of the fans for his time at Chelsea and Porto. His recent “diplomatic” interview at Old Trafford after The Champions League might have swayed them on his side though.

Paris Saint Germain are next on the list. Ligue 1 is a certainly not as good a league as La Liga or the Premier League, so it might not be suitable for Jose (or his ego ). Reports in France suggest talks are underway. There’s plenty of money to spend, plenty to earn. A temptation to win the league in five different countries. With the backing of the Qatari owners, Jose can do wonders, raising the profile of the French league in the process.

Manchester City are last on the list for a reason. He simply cannot go there. Labelled as the Noisy Neighbors, any chance of him jumping ship to join United will be suicidal. Adding to the misery, they have Ferran Soriano as the Chief Executive and Txiki Begiristain as the director of football. For some folks who don’t know them, Ferran Soriano and Txiki, were the brains behind appointing Pep Guardiola as the head coach, and more importantly rejecting Mourinho for the same. As Graham hunter explains in his book,

Begiristain had travelled to Lisbon with two directors, Marc Ingla and Ferran Soriano, to see Mourinho. The presentation was impressive but Begiristain, Soriano and Ingla were not keen; there was something about his personality that did not fit. They would win, sure, but it was not enough simply to win. Guardiola was not just the right manager, he was the right man. When they returned, the message was unanimous: it has got to be Guardiola. Soriano and Begiristain went to get him.

So its highly unlikely that Mourinho will be appointed there.

Personally I would have liked Jose to stay at Real Madrid. He is a superb tactician and a superb manager. But his constant flirting with the other clubs has certainly not went down well with certain sections of the fans. Where will Jose go? Only he knows. But the ball is set rolling, behind the scenes Real Madrid are working on their next project and will need someone more special than Mourinho to guide them on.
