The £17m youngster who could save Liverpool’s midfield:

Christian EriksenYoung Welsh footballer, Joe Allen arrived at Liverpool with the world at his feet. He’d just enjoyed a sensational season with Swansea City, where his slick passing had led his side to an impressive finish in their first season in the Premier League.

He was good enough to merit a £15m move to Liverpool (£-1-5-m!) and at just 23-years-old, had bags of potential. Unfortunately, since arriving at Anfield, his development has stalled and his future seems less certain.

The omens were already there in his first game – a 3-0 loss against West Brom at the start of the season. He struggled to keep up with the pace of the game and was unable to find his range. He continued to struggled for form up until March, when it was revealed he required surgery on his left shoulder and would be out for the rest of the season.

Brendan Rodgers should have known better. But he’ll have a chance to redeem himself this summer, by dipping back into the transfer market.

One of the most exciting players to get linked to Liverpool in recent months is Christian Eriksen, a young Danish talent with even more potential than last season’s Joe Allen.

He’s currently playing his football for Ajax, but it looks like his future may lay elsewhere.

With only 12 months left on his contract and no movement on agreeing a new deal, I wouldn’t be surprised if Liverpool came knocking. According to Inside Futbol, Christian Eriksen responded to speculation regarding his transfer fee to suggest that it’s ‘for the clubs’ to arrange.

It’s thought Ajax are looking for 20m euros, or £17m. That’s a lot of money for a player his age, especially with his contract running out.

But he’d be worth it. Eriksen is the kind of talent who could blossom into a world-class midfielder. There seems to be more about him than Joe Allen – he could go on to become the next Steven Gerrard. A future Kop legend whose all-action displays capture the imagination of the fans.

With his future at Ajax in question, Liverpool would be foolish not to make enquiries and try to lower the club’s asking price.

He’s highly rated throughout Europe and could put Liverpool back on the road to silverware. I’d say he’d make a worthy investment.

What’s your take? Would Christian Eriksen be a smart addition for Liverpool?

one thing is certain if rodgers sees sense and gets rid of allen he wont get anywhere near the 15mill we gifted to swansea.would be lucky to get half that

If Liverpool could[cant] afford Erikson why would he go to a midtable outfit with little or no chance of getting Champions league football for the next number of years.Excluding the two rent boys power of spending look at the financial deals Utd have made. They currently have 35 sponsors raking in 100m per year and that is not including any other source of revenue. The rumblings from Platini is that he wants three places from Premership to contest Champions League.

if like to see themself among the top 4….stay away from average players like, borini, downing, hendeson, allen etc…. They r just a stumbling block for the club as the home grown players get less chance on the pitch and no good player can come in because average player are the first choice for the club….

Wow – you think B R will still be there – less points than Kenny at this stage and the latter won one cup and lost in final of another –

Even if eriksen is half as good as people say he is he will still be 5-10 times better than joe Allen. LFC should make it their no.1 priority to sign him. He would be by far the best player in that position in the team. If they have to sell joe Allen or another player in order to bring him in they should do that without even thinking about it.
Talking of selling Borini is another dead wood LFC need to get rid. Even before we signed him I said wrote on the LFC blog against him coming to LFC.
He wasn’t good enough at Chelsea that’s why the washed there hands with him, also if was any good a player of his age would Roma have sold him to LFC.
Sometimes I think these simple logic is a hard concept for some of these young managers to grasp.
Going back to Joe Allen if he was that good would Laudrep have sold him. I don’t think so, off he made some noises as to how good Allen is, that’s only to push the price up. Which he successfully did.
LFC not only need eriksen they also need a defensive midfielder. Someone who is good on the ball but also big and strong with a lot of gas in the engine. Someone who can not only break up attack but also set up counter attacks and also make runs up and down the pitch for the whole game when needed.
We also need a goal scorer a poucher someone whose game is all about nicking goals.
We all know that we also need defenders, possibly 2 central defenders if Martin skretal wants to leave and we can get 15-20 mill for him than we should sell and use that money to bring in 2 top class defenders.
We probably won’t have spend 20 mill for 2 top defenders as there are 1 or 2 free agents or players in their last year and not signing a new deal with their club.
What ever happens we will need to bring in 4-5 players of the highest quality if we are to challenge for top 3-4 places next season and than eventually challenge for the title.
In order to challenge for the above we need investment in players, my worry is does John w Henry have deep enough pockets to realise our dreams. Even if he does is he willing to spend that kind of money?

  • Pnderito says:

He is worth every penny but i dnt think it will happen if Brendan is at the helm. Please F.S.G. Sack this fella!!!

  • Livmad says:

Get Eriksen and Carlo Ancelotti NOW…BR has no clue. Eriksen can replace Gerrard immediately. Also get rid of Downing, Allen, Borini, Spearing, Lucas, and allow Carragher to retire. I’m sick with Liverpool fighting for 6th place coz Liverpool deserves better.

  • George Kakomo says:

Being a top table team will only prove harder & harder, with the emergency of Man City & Chelsea. The two have reached their levels by opening check books. If LFC fail to spend on quality players, they will simply continue being a mid table outfit and this affects fan base and income base in the long run.
