TIF Article 8 - Arsenal

After 16 years in charge of Arsenal and  his teams eighth successive season without a trophy, and with Wenger’s contract nearing to an end, could it be time for Gazidis and the Arsenal Board to give Wenger a polite push out of the door? Well quite possibly. The combination of Arsenal’s trophy less streak and the allure of some of Europe’s top managers, perhaps seeking moves away from their current positions, could tempt the Arsenal board to act decisively.

David Moyes’, current contract with Everton expires at end of the season Moyes is a tactician like Wenger and he has proven that he can produce a quality outfit with little transfer funds available at Goodison Park. This could certainly be tempting for the Arsenal board, who may seize the opportunity to capture one of the premier leagues most experienced managers. The former Preston manager’s ability to keep a tight budget and work within his means, would be an attractive asset for Arsenal to posses. Moyes is one of a plethora of managers who has been linked with Chelsea job this summer.

However it remains unclear as to whether Moyes would fancy his chances with the notorious axe-wielding Russian at Stamford Bridge- Moyes has his reputation to think of after all. With Chelsea, tight lipped about their successor, and many people fancying Moyes for the role, should Arsenal steal in and snatch him from under their nose?

Jurgen Klopp: A strong tactician. A philosophical manager. He has done wonders with the Borussia Dortmund team, turning the Signal Iduna Park into something of a fortress. His ability to get the best from his young players is second to none- having elevated the likes of Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski, and Shinji Kagawa, now at Manchester United, to the European stage. And although more attention is given to the stunning attack, Klopp has managed to form a formidable defensive partnership in German international Mats Hummels, and Serbia’s Nevan Subotic. So why would Klopp want to leave?

Well the answer is that, Klopp has become slightly disillusioned with the clubs hierarchy, who sanctioned the departure of Japanese international Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United last summer, and who look set to let more of Klopp’s star players to leave. As some of Europe’s biggest clubs circle for their signatures. He has also seen his dominant Dortmund team lose pace in this years Bundesliga, with rivals Bayern Munich streaks ahead at the top of the table.

This factor, as well as the club’s determination to receive big money for their star players, may have prompted Klopp to look to further his blossoming managerial career elsewhere. An unsettled manager at one of Europe’s biggest talent pool over the last few years, could awaken Gazidis from his bed of money, and lead to the chief executive calling time on Wenger’s reign, in order to appoint Klopp, Europe’s hottest managerial talent to take Arsenal back to the big time, as a major driving force in European football.

This wouldn’t be a football article discussing a managerial vacancy at top club in the Premier league, without mentioning Roberto Martinez. Who has been consistently, for a number of years now, touted as a potential ‘top four’ manager. After losing out to Brendan Rogers last summer for the Liverpool job, Martinez has carried on his work at Wigan, and although they lie 18th in the table, Martinez’s work at Wigan cannot go unnoticed.

He continually gets the best from a Wigan team which for a number of years has lacked defensive quality and a potent attacker, capable of lifting Wigan firmly away from danger, which is partly down to financial constraints at the club. It’s not only Martinez’s ability to keep Wigan afloat that is impressive, he is a driven manager, who like Wenger, places so much emphasis on a passing philosophy. There is no doubt, that if Wenger were to be shown the exit door, Martinez would be a risk, but with a manager bursting with his enthusiasm for the game, he certainly would not go down without a fight.

With all things considered, there’s one name thats gone a miss. This name is Jose Mourinho, and whilst I think he will end up elsewhere than the Emirates, he could play the key to a summer manager merry-go-round. With Mourinho looking increasingly likely to leave the Galacticos, having been linked with Inter Milan and Chelsea- both former employees, his departure could kick start a summer of managerial departures and arrivals.

Real Madrid have been longstanding admirers of Arsene Wenger, with the club president Florentino Perez admitting that they had tried to bring Wenger to the club ‘numerous times’. This could tempt Wenger to agree to leave, if he felt the time was right. Wenger’s departure for Madrid could then leave the door open for German managerial magician Jurgen Klopp to take charge at Arsenal, which would be an lucrative proposition for both Klopp and Arsenal.

This could then lead to a very exciting prospect for European football – David Moyes, to the german giants Borussia Dortmund. Moyes has previously stated his intentions to work in the Bundesliga, and Dortmund would be an ideal place for Moyes to learn his trade in European football.

The final piece of this jigsaw would then be a move from Wigan to top six contenders Everton, for Roberto Martinez, who would relish the opportunity to prove himself at a top club and become a fans favourite at Everton.

The Arsenal board would never let Moyles through the door.
He has the balls that every Arsenal fan wishes Wenger had and has told the Everton board that he wants a workable transfer budget or he is out the door.

It is no secret (all blind blinkered AKB’s cover their eyes now) that Wenger doesn’t stand up to the board, doesn’t make good transfer choices and his tactics on the pitch come up short.
Factor in the fact that he either lets top players go or allows the board to force the sale of top players and it amounts to Arsenal needing a change.

Let’s be honest we could sell 12 players from the 20 player pool and wouldn’t miss any of them.

I would live to see Arsenal fans get together to put pressure on Kroenke, hook up with fans of his clubs in the US (they all struggle because of transfer budgets as well) and get them to apply pressure there as well. He would, with enough bad press, simply have to sell his shares leave. Close the door on your way out Stan, there’s a good lad, trot on then…

Kroenke out, Wenger out, Usmanov in and a new manager, damn that thought makes me happy!

The answer is NO!!!! HE shouldn’t leave…now can you idiots try and find something better to write about instead of trying to question the greatest manager in Arsenals history!!! You would rather have David Moyes or Roberto Martinez in charge of the mighty Arsenal? lol! This is ridiculous, why not AVB? As spurs are a cpl of points in front so therefore must have the greatest manager on the planet!! and seriously you suggest the biggest d**khead in football to come manage a classy club like Arsenal? Mourinho is not welcome and never will be!!!! I’m sure the fans are getting bored of Wenger out articles, remember…all you pathetic so called fans blogs on newsnow wanted Wenger sacked a few months ago when we lost a cpl of games! If he didn’t get sacked then he won’t do now!! Grow up, and try find some ORIGINAL news, not just recycled rubbish!!! Yawnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!

“allure of some of Europe’s top managers”, like who? No, if we swop Evertons tender soul (manager) for what we have we are continuing the way downhill – Wenger has bought many bargain basement players that he does not know what to do with – now there are suggestions that we will get a manager from the bargain basement – please no – Better the devil you know than the devil you dont! No big name players will be attracted by the fact tha David Moyes will be the next manager – Wenger has plenty of respect amongst the worlds top.
He must be cut down to size and not be such a control freak – he must listen to other opinions – yes he is good but not infallible – He must not be the sole adjudicator of who we buy – He loves the bargain basement – like the koreans and the Danish etc – stay away – buy less – pay more and get quality.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp does sound an attractive proposition, what needs more consideration is actually whether Wenger’s Arsenal are over performing or under performing? The millions spent by City, Chelsea, United, Liverpool etc… begs the question, is he really doing that bad a job? Personally, I’d say Wenger’s been simply unlucky regarding barren run, after all you can’t blame him for a linesman’s mistake (2006 CL final) or an individual piece of madness at exactly the wrong time (2007 & 2010 Carling cup finals), not that winning the League Cup would prove anything anyway.

All in all, Wenger has steered Arsenal (with a bit of luck, 2006 food poisoning outbreak at Spurs springs to mind) to a consistent top 4 place finish for the last 16 years and as far as i can see, that’s not the kind of manager many owners would relish ‘giving a polite push out the door’. As long as Wenger continues to steer Arsenal to 4th I’m happy to say we are not in decline (Liverpool-esque) and I am confident that if Arsenal can retain 4th this season and next, it won’t be long (given sufficient funds) before the silverware comes to accompany it. After all, when the mediocre Chelsea team of last year managed to win the FA Cup and the Champions League, it begs the question, why couldn’t Arsenal? Well arguably without some incredibly poor officiating, they’d still be in with a chance this season of the FA Cup, Blackburn defeat, humiliating as it was, did have some controversy attached; not that the media would ever dare to mention it, they feast on a giant killing and completely disregarding of the 70% possession, 30 shots on goal etc… would happily tell you it was Blackburn’s game to lose from start to finish. The point is that it is not Wenger’s fault (neither is it the referee’s fault) that Arsenal have failed to win trophies, simply lady luck. There’s nothing wrong with the ‘mentality’ etc as was suggested following the dramatic collapse from 10 pts clear in 2009-10, in fact that season was largely lost due to a horror tackle on Eduardo which completely shook up a very young team and they never really played with the same confidence or panache following the disastrous day at St Andrews.

As long as Wenger keeps us in some level of contention for the FA Cup and Champions League and doesn’t allow a gap of more than 3 places between us and the top of the league, keeping him would be the safe and sensible choice, and the one that I’d go for.

DOES BARCELONA, REAL MADRID, OR BORISSIA DORTMUND WANT MOYES? IS MOYES EUROPEAN MANAGER OF THE DECADE? you dick. William Robey, you have become washed up by the media and it’s shite.

  • Alex says:

@dave to be honest why would they be looking for moyes? They have stable management as it is? Arsenal haven’t won a trophy in 8 years, if united or any of those clubs you mentioned not won any sort of trophy in 7 years then they would change their management?
