Could Arsenal be about to pick up a £6m summer bargain?

Loic RemyWhilst most of QPR’s additions since the summer have been disappointing, the same cannot be said for the talented French International Loic Remy.

The 26-year-old has had to face off injury problems, but every time he steps onto the pitch, he looks dangerous.

He’s a tall, physical specimen, but he’s also quick along the ground, has great technique and knows where the back of the net is.

I’m surprised that bigger clubs didn’t come in for him last summer, or during the January transfer window, where QPR were able to throw their cash around and get their man (despite Newcastle’s best efforts).

There are very few natural goal-scorers in world football, but Remy is right up there with the best of them. Just look at the way he took his goal against Wigan. Ten men QPR had been working hard for a long-time, managed to engineer a swift counter-attack, putting Remy into a great position from which he fired home. Sensational stuff.

If he’s capable of this kind of magic whilst playing for a lacklustre Rangers side, imagine what he could do if he had an effective midfield behind him? If he was given regular service in dangerous areas, he’d be right up amongst the Premier League top goal-scorers.

I think it’s this line of thought that has seen the creation of a number of different transfer rumours concerning the 26-year-old. Take this one in The Mirror, for instance: Arsenal are ready to trigger Remy’s £6m relegation release clause this summer, to bring him to the Emirates.

I’m not surprised Remy got one of these clauses inserted into his contract. QPR has provided him with a payday, but it makes sense he should put an ‘out’ in his contract should things go awry. Now that relegation looks more or less assured, speculation about his future is only likely to continue.

Of all the top clubs, Arsenal are the side who are in most need of a quality striker. They’re also a side who aren’t known for breaking the bank. These two circumstances may come together to force a move for Remy.

Arsene Wenger knows the French league and knows all the best French players. It’s likely that he already knows whether he’d like to see Remy playing in his Arsenal side.

He’d certainly offer something significantly different from the limited Olivier Giroud. Pace, power and finishing ability – now that has to be tempting for Arsenal fans?

What’s your take? Should Arsenal trigger Remy’s release clause this summer?

Don’t see it happening. The likes of Liverpool, or even Spurs will come an swoop on Remy whilst Wenger is still “weighing up a bid”!!!

Every season at about this time we’re linked with the greats of world football, only to end up with bargain basement alternatives. Remy fits perfectly into that latter category. He’s French and cheap. Having once been identified as the ‘New Thierry Henry’ he went on to fail spectacularly at Marseille. After his good start at QPR M Vengerrrrr will undoubtedly feel that he can make him into a world beater, like Arshavin, Bendtner, Chamakh, Park, Vela, Gervinho …

I think we should have bought him in January But knowing Wenger thinking he has a great squad of players who we all know most are really shit and not even Championship class but he should get Remy in the summer He is the best goalscorert I have seen of late and the goal he scored against Wigan was fantastic and must be rated for goal of the season pity QPR did not get Redknap earlier they would have survived the drop Come on Wenger only 6 million it is like pochet mon ey to you
