Radamel FalcaoRadamel Falcao’s future has been a hot topic for a couple of years now, but could the summer of 2013 be the transfer window where something finally happens?

The Columbian, 27, has been in prolific form for Atletico Madrid, notching 46 times in 60 appearances since his €40 million move from FC Porto.

He is the third top scorer in La Liga with 22 goals, 7 less than Ronaldo and 11 from Lionel Messi. He also scored a hat-trick in the 2012 UEFA Super Cup Final in a 4-1 victory over Chelsea.

For months now, Falcao has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as a possible replacement for Fernando Torres, who has struggled to find consistent form since his £50 million move.

Chelsea were widely believed to be the front runners in the race for his signature ahead of Real Madrid and Manchester City, but it has since emerged that Manchester United have overtaken both teams and could sign Radamel Falcao in the summer.

The Old Trafford club are reported to have made a down payment.

If these rumours are true it would surely annihilate United’s current transfer record, currently the £30.75 million paid to Tottenham for Dimitar Berbatov. It is said by Spanish paper, Marca, that Falcao is worth £50 million but the Columbian has a £60 million buy-out clause.

The move has been dismissed as mere speculation by the Atletico coach, Diego Simeone.

A move to Old Trafford is surely only an outside bet. Manchester United already have 4 established forwards in Hernandez, van Persie, Welbeck and Rooney and are said to be very interested in Dortmund’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.

These links could possibly be a sign of what is to become of Wayne Rooney. The striker almost moved a couple of years ago and PSG are reported to be very interested in signing the 27 year old England international.

So who knows where Radamel Falcao will go. Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester City or Manchester United? Or maybe there will be interest from other clubs.

Whatever happens he is sure to be a fantastic signing for anybody and the next transfer window will be very intriguing indeed.

What’s your take? Would Radamel Falcao be a good addition for an already front-loaded Manchester United side?
