Why Ligue 1 is becoming Europe’s next Super League:

|

Ligue 1Apologies for what is about to be, in all effect, a rant. I truly think I am going to persuade you that France’s Ligue 1 is on course to be the next best league on Europe’s footballing stage. Hold on with the negative feedback until the end if possible…

First and foremost, Money. We all see money as the powerhouse behind the English game. Man City have it, apparently Arsenal do not. Hence the filling of the Trophy cabinet in the Etihad of recent times. The game is changing and those with Financial backers who are happy to accept a loss will succeed, so in actual terms, losing is winning from a monetary backers view.

So why Ligue 1?
PSG is my case study of how football is being sculpted by not only class, but money. When a Russian Oligart or a Sheikh decides to invest in football, the majority of the time it is not for a cash return, is it? Manchester United were Manchester’s driving force of football, but since Sheikh Mansour’s investment, things have chanced quickly.

The exact same is happening to France’s PSG who have real support from another wealthy backer who, in actual fact, splashed out just under £210m since he took over. Trust me, for a Ligue 1 side, he is certainly NOT making a profit.

Ligue 1, in a very ‘raw’ league as it were, with a good foundation to support a financial uprising. What I mean by that is you can spend very little on a good enough team in France’s top League and lead a team to trophies. This can also translate to success on the international stage at the Champions League and even the Club Championships.

As football is becoming more and more influential in France, this is the perfect time to buy and with Financial troubles lurking around the corner for many French teams, you can grab yourself a bargain. The tax situation in France certainly doesn’t help the clubs keep hold of their players and this may be a stopping block when it comes to the growth of Ligue 1. Still, there’s plenty of money to go around.

Money is the future of the game and the way Ligue 1 is headed, it is on course to overtake the likes of the Bundesliga and even La Liga to become one of Europe’s elite leagues.
