Why Chelsea and the rest of the Premier League need to say ‘no way Jose!’

mourinhoWhile the British media is a state of constant arousal, only the whisper of their darling Jose Mourinho returning to England is necessary to set them off, I thought it was time for a less love-struck view on the egotistical maniac known as the Special One.

Even recently, there have been an influx of stories about Mourinho’s potential return to Chelsea. This would be a mistake.

Let’s start by looking at this self-titled Special One’s love of expensive toys and if he delivered value for money.

Porto (2002-2004: two seasons)

  •                         2003: Portuguese League, Cup, Super Cup and UEFA Cup.
  •                         2004: Portuguese League and UEFA Champions League.
  •                         Total Spent: £21 million
  •                         Value for money: Yes

Chelsea (2004-2007: three seasons)

  •                         2005: English Premier League and League Cup
  •                         2006: English Premier League
  •                         2007: English League Cup and FA Cup
  •                         Total Spent: £232.7 Million
  •                         Value for money: Not a chance

Inter Milan (2008-2010: two seasons)

  •                         2008: Italian League
  •                         2010: Italian League, Italian Cup and UEFA Champions League
  •                         Total Spent: £135 million
  •                         Value for money: No

Real Madrid   (2010-now)

  •                         2011: Spanish Cup
  •                         2012: Spanish League
  •                         Total Spent: £323 million
  •                         Value for money: Not even close

When deciding value for money I looked at the strength of each team in its respective league, amount of money spent on wages, achievements prior to Mourinho arriving and international significance of the trophies he won.

While I must admit that the titles that Mourinho won at Porto are impressive, beginners luck, he has since spent £690 million and delivered one Champions League trophy, five domestic titles and five minor domestic cups in eight years. If this is the record of a ‘special’ manager I don’t know what this makes Pep Guardiola, Arsene Wenger, Carlo Ancelotti or Alex Ferguson.

Even if you, as several well-respected journalists try and do, ignore Mourinho’s financial history you can’t ignore his personality. This is a man who has absolutely no morals at all and has even resorted to physically assaulting staff members from opposing teams (poking Barcelona’s Tito Villanova in the eye).

He is responsible for ruining the professional careers of referee’s Anders Frisk and Tom Henning Ovrebo when he publically placed all the blame for Chelsea’s Champions League defeats in 2009 and 2008 on the referees.

You would imagine that most football managers are aware of the effect that they have on their team’s supporters and that fans, especially when feeling disgruntled after a game, will eagerly listen to comments a manager makes and feel justification for their actions when he echoes their beliefs.  After Chelsea were defeated in the 2008 and 2009 Champions Leagues Mourinho had the chance to defuse the disgraceful attitude that both his players and the club’s fans had taken towards the referees, he chose not to and decided his public image was more important than the careers of others, he was a coward.

This cowardly and selfish behaviour has been present all the way though his managerial career, he publically craves controversy and confrontations and for some reason the English media has deemed this behaviour to be acceptable. In my opinion he is very much a man that the world of football could very much do without and if he somehow makes his way back to England, where journalists, supposed experts and deluded fans lap-up all of his arrogant and disruptive tendencies, the Premier League and English football will be worse off for it.

This is the most biased piece of trash ive ever read. The author clearly has a dislike for jose. So much so that he has nit even bothered to check his facts. FYI jose was not boss when Ovrebo cheated us. So blaming jose for ruining his career is ridiculous. You clearly have no clue about football or jose’ merits as a manager. To suggest he hasnt been value for money outside of portugal is a joke.

This writer is a novice and an upstart in football affairs, your numbers are manufacture in only your bid to deride the special one , one fact Jose spent almost nothing in real Madrid as the bulk of the buys are there before he arrived, hence for this reason you have failed in your bid to mislead the public

  • Uzoegheli says:

This writer may not actually exist , I can bet on that too

I think the writer of this article is Manchester United’s laundry attendant.

  • efkz says:

Jose is not the one who negotiates contracts or transfer fees. It is the management who agrees on that. Author obviously has no common sense. Bad article overall. You should just stop wasting time and cease writing.

Wow! I thought jounalist are trained to educate & enlighten d public, bearing in mind that objectivity is d rule of dat game called journalism.
Whoever wrote dis piece of trash has only succeeded in voicing his sentiments a personal hatred for Jose. He left Chelsea in 2007, yet U attribute incidents dat happend during 2008/2009 to him. Your figures regarding how much he spent @ d various clubs he managed are absolutely unfounded & ridiculous.
Anyway, I’d jst say U are entitled to ur opinion. U r such an ignoramous, i advice u rather concentrate on getting more stuff on dat thick head of urs & learn for once to be constructive!
