Stevan JoveticStevan Jovetic was part of the battling, cocky Montenegrin side that held England to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night. But Arsenal fans will know him better as a player who has been linked consistently to their club for the last six months or so.

Whilst he showed little of what makes him such an attractive prospect in the mid-week fixture, those who watch him on a regular basis in Serie A have been heaping plaudits on him. The Fiorentina forward has quick feet, a great attitude and plenty of attacking endeavour. He’s his clubs top scorer this season and excels in the second striker role where he gets to help pull the strings.

He may only be 23-years-old, but he has the aura, and the ability of somebody much older. He looks like he’s ready to make a switch to a big club and certainly wouldn’t be out of place at Arsenal. He’d represent a step up on the likes of Olivier Giroud. He has more craft, pace and ingenuity in his left toe than the Frenchman has in either foot.

Arsenal are on the look out for a new striker following the acrinomous departure of club captain Robin Van Persie last season. The Dutchman’s exit left the club in disarray and Wenger didn’t do a great job of picking up the pieces. The replacements brought in just haven’t been up to the challenge and Arsene may have to turn back to the transfer market to resolve his problem.

Stevan Jovetic would certainly represent a good solution.

The player himself has spoken about a potential move: “I’ve heard about Arsenal’s interest. It’s a big pleasure for me to be on the radar of such a big club. I am happy about that. I’ve always had an affinity with Arsenal. It’s a major club with a big tradition, one of the biggest in Europe.

Maybe one day I will play there but I have a contract with Fiorentina and battling for a Champions League place in Serie A is the only thing I’m thinking about now.”

Whilst he has rolled out many of the ordinary platitudes, there’s clear evidence here that he wouldn’t rule out a move to Arsenal. ClubCall claim that he’d cost the Gunners around £20m. For that figure, he’d represent an absolute bargain.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal take advantage of Stevan Jovetic’s ‘affinity’?
