Younes BelhandaWhether or not Arsenal finish in a top four slot this season, Arsene Wenger is going to have to draw up a list of transfer priorities. Whilst the Gunners look like a club who could use additions all over the pitch, Wenger’s priority will probably be as follows:

1) A new striker.
2) Another striker.
3) Another striker.

Arsene Wenger sides are renowned for their attacking talent, but this post-Robin Van Persie Arsenal side is sorely lacking in this department. Their pace-men Theo Walcott and Gervinho are wildly inconsistent and their out-and-out goalscorer, Olivier Giroud is hit and miss.

So we can only hope that some serious investment is made in a striker this summer.

And if this happens, Arsene Wenger may have to look at budget options to improve the rest of his squad. He may well view this as an opportunity to re-establish his reputation as the Premier Leagues leading transfer shaman, following a string of poor moves in recent years.

All of which pre-amble brings me to a transfer rumour concerning Montpellier’s Younes Belanda, who Sky Sports claim has been linked to Arsenal.

He’s a player who has been linked to the Gunners for some time now. Arsenal fans may remember his cheeky penalty against them in the group stages of the Champions League earlier this season.

He played a key role in Montpellier’s title winning season last year (linking up neatly with Olivier Giroud!) and hasn’t slowed down, even as his club has failed to keep up with PSG this term.

A player with awesome technical ability, great close control and swift passing, he’d be an excellent addition to most Premier League teams. Arsenal, though would surely be where he’d be most at home, given Arsene Wenger’s proclivity for making the most of young talent from the French league (the player himself is Moroccan).

I’d like to see him at this Emirates for this reason: he’d be a step up on Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky and Abou Diaby. He’s be squad player who could legitimately challenge for a first-team place and I don’t think any of the aforementioned players could make the same claim.

He’s also available. According to Montpellier’s president, Louis Nicollin, “Bedimo and Belhanda can leave. I am waiting for different offers. “Apart from those two, we can keep the rest of the squad.”

So whilst he’s not the most exciting midfield addition Arsene can make, I’d say it would show he has his priorities in the right place.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Arsenal swoop for Younes Belhanda this summer?
